Head of Computer Science

Description

Introduction

Computer Science is an exciting subject. We try to keep up with technology and solve everyday problems, understanding that a computer is a tool that we can control and that it can do things that we cannot. We look into the workings of a computer so we can better apply our problem solving knowledge. We try to comprehend the digital age and how we can use the internet to come up with solutions to problems.
In KS3 we start with e-safety, given its importance in modern society, then swiftly move on to modelling and programming and the internet. We use programming languages like Python and JavaScript to create simple software.
At KS4 the understanding is developed further as we look into communications, programming, logic and how CPUs (Central Processing Unit) work.
Our ultimate goal in Computer Science is to help students understand how to solve problems using computers and to become confident in the modern age.
To help us with this we have three dedicated computer suites with computers full of a range of software. We also have a range of devices and services to support our teaching and learning such a Lego Mindstorms and Micro:Bits
