On Friday, 17 November our Year 9 students took part in their first PSHCRE Day of the year. The event was entitled ‘Preparing for the Future’. Students listened to a range of speakers from various organisations. The day started off with a talk from Shannon Reddin about healthy relationships. During the next three lessons, students took part in workshops from organisations such as Southampton University, Bournemouth University, the Army, Rotary and Explore. These opportunities gave students a chance to look at different options for life beyond The Hamble School and helped them to reflect the challenges they might face in adulthood.
In the afternoon we were very lucky to welcome Chris Lubbe to the school. Chris is a highly acclaimed keynote speaker and life coach. He told his incredible story about resistance against apartheid and addressed a number of important issues. The students were left inspired by his resilience, courage and determination. Importantly he spoke about the value of education and Nelson Mandela’s famous quote ‘education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world’.
We look forward to this week’s PSHCRE Day for Year 10.
