We look forward to welcoming students back into school tomorrow (Monday 28 February) at 08:30am. Here are some important reminders for next week:

Events

  • Monday 28 February until Friday 11 March – Mock Exams for Year 11
  • Monday 28 February to Friday 4 March – Headteacher Assemblies
  • Thursday 3 March – World Book Day
  • Thursday 3 March – Year 8 Parents’ Evening Online

For information about World Book Day and Year 8 Parents’ Evening, please read the letters in the relevant year group section on our website: https://www.thehambleschool.co.uk/letters-to-parents/

When we return to school on Monday, it is WEEK 1.

Future Dates – Tuesday 8 March is an INSED Day and students are not required in school. Some parents/ carers have asked about the the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday. The additional bank holiday for this on Friday 3 June 2022, which is in half term. Hampshire County Council have decided to give an extra day in the summer holidays to compensate this. As we are a Hampshire County Council school we will follow this, therefore, the 2022 summer holiday now starts earlier, on Friday 22 July. The last day of the summer term will be Thursday 21 July.

COVID-19 Update

New guidance came into effect on 24 February and will be updated on 1 April 2022. There is no longer a legal requirement for people with coronavirus (COVID-19) infection to self-isolate, however if you have any of the main symptoms of COVID-19 or a positive test result, the public health advice is to stay at home and avoid contact with other people.

In line with Department of Education guidance, we would ask that if your child has symptoms of COVID-19 or they have received a positive Lateral Flow Device (LFD) / PCR result, you do not send them into school. You must report the COVID-19 related absence using this link: https://tinyurl.com/THSCovidAbsence  We will also continue to set remote education on Class Charts.

Students can return to school before 10 days, if they return two negative LFD tests. They should take a LFD test from 5 days after their symptoms started (or the day their test was taken if they did not have symptoms) followed by another one the next day. If both these tests results are negative, they should return to school as long as they feel well enough to do so and do not have a temperature.

Mr Govan will be writing home later in the week to fully update families. In the meantime, further information can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-people-with-covid-19-and-their-contacts/covid-19-people-with-covid-19-and-their-contacts

Class Charts – New Features

We are very excited to be able to share details of further centralised features, that are to be made available to parents/ carers and students on Class Charts, from Monday 28 February 2022.

From this date, parents/ carers and students will be able to view details of rewards and behaviours, detentions, attendance and timetables.

Rewards and Behaviour

Under the ‘Behaviour’ tab of both the App and desktop versions of Class Charts, you will see a Pie Chart.  Selecting this tab will display multiple graphs which represent an overview of your child’s achievement and behaviour data within a customisable timeframe. By default, the displayed date range is 31 days. To view a different range of behaviour data, click on the ‘Date’ button to select from the available pre-sets or create your own custom date range.

Below these graphs you can find a list of behaviour activity relating to your child. These display the behaviour that was awarded, when it was awarded, who awarded the behaviour, the lesson the behaviour was awarded in, and how many points the award is worth.

Please note that the Activity Feed will only share achievement and behaviour from 28 February, whereas the ‘Behaviour Score Breakdown’ will share information for the entire academic year.

Detentions

The ‘Detentions’ tab will display any detention that your child has been issued.

To view more information about a specific detention, click on the arrow icon. This will bring up a popup that describes the detention, including the location for the detention, the awarding teacher and scheduling information.

Please note that this is now the main form of communication we will use to notify parents/ carers about a detention. In most cases we will no longer call home or email.

Attendance

Selecting the ‘Attendance’ tab will present you with a table of your child’s attendance data for the past 31 days. To change the displayed timeframe of attendance records, click on the ‘Date’ button and select the date range of your choice. Attendance records fall under four categories: Present, Late, Authorised absence and Unauthorised absence.

  • Present: Your child attended the lesson.
  • Late: Your child was late to the lesson.
  • Authorised absence: Your child did not attend the lesson, but had a valid reason for doing so.
  • Unauthorised absence: Your child did not attend the lesson and did not have a valid reason to do so.

Timetable

Selecting the ‘Timetable’ tab will present you with your child’s timetable for the current day. This includes the time of each lesson, the lesson name, the teacher’s name and the room where the lesson will take place. Your child’s current lesson will be highlighted in blue, as shown below. To view timetable data for another day of the week, click on one of the other displayed dates along the top of the timetable. To change the displayed week, click on the Date button and select a date from the week of your choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I receive notifications when awards and detentions are set? No, parents/ carers can access this information at a time suitable to them, without interruptions from a notification.

Will I still be contacted by telephone or email to inform me of a detention? In most cases, staff will be using Class Charts to inform parents/ carers of a detention.  Where staff feel it is not appropriate to do so, contact may still be made via telephone or email.

Does this mean that my child will be able to use their phone in school? No, the rules around mobile phone use in school remain unchanged.  Students should use these new helpful features outside of school hours (for example, to help them get organised for the next day).

I do not know how to add additional students to my parent/ carer account, how do I do this? On the App, click on the ‘Pupil’ icon in the bottom right hand corner of the app and select ‘Add pupil’. On the website, click on ‘Add Pupil’ button in the left-hand side navigation menu. From here, follow the on-screen instructions.

I do not know my parent code, what shall I do? Please contact homelearning@thehambleschool.co.uk and we will be able to send this through to you.

I do not understand how to use the Class Charts features – Please can you help? Of course.  We will be offering ZOOM sessions after half term, for parents/ carers to ask questions and seek support for using Class Charts.  To attend a ZOOM support session, please contact homelearning@thehambleschool.co.uk to express your interest.  We will be in touch with the details of the ZOOM sessions in due course.

We hope that you will find these new features helpful to you, as we continue to explore the most efficient ways of sharing information regarding your child with you.
