Computer Science

Mrs L Holborow

Head of Computer Science

Computer Science is an exciting subject. We try to keep up with technology and solve everyday problems, understanding that a computer is a tool that we can control and that it can do things that we cannot. We look into the workings of a computer so we can better apply our problem solving knowledge. We try to comprehend the digital age and how we can use the internet to come up with solutions to problems.
In KS3 we start with e-safety, given its importance in modern society, then swiftly move on to programming, control systems, computer systems and hardware. We use programming languages ranging from Scratch to HTML and Python.
At KS4 we follow the Edexcel GCSE Computer Science course. During the course students develop understanding of the following topics; computer programming, data handling, computer and systems architecture, networks and communication and the bigger picture of computer use in modern day society.
To help us with this we have three dedicated computer suites with computers full of a range of software. We also have a range of devices and services to support our teaching and learning such as Lego Mindstorms and Micro:Bits.
