Safeguarding:

A reminder that if you or your son/ daughter have any concerns or would like support, you can email staysafe@thehambleschool.co.uk We have a large and experienced team of Safeguarding Leads who are always on hand to help and work with you.

Lateral Flow Devices (LFD):

We will no longer be providing LFD through school, because schools cannot order them anymore. If your child shows symptoms or tests positive and you would like them to return to school before 10 days, you will need to obtain LFDs from a Pharmacy or through the following free service: https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests

Window Wanderland:

Well done to our Year 9 students who produced such fantastic displays for ‘Window Wanderland 2022’. The final pieces were available for the community to view at White & Guard and in the Sports Complex over half term. Cianna B even won a #25 gift voucher for the category of ‘Best Concept’. The Mayor visited the displays and managed to chat with some of our students – she was really impressed by the work.

Year 7 Update from Mrs Baldwin:

Last half term Year 7s were all working hard to be in the ‘Top 5’! I know this created some healthy competition between the tutor groups. Every week the ‘Top 5’ students with the most reward points and also the ‘Top 5’ most improved from the previous week are recognized with a prize and a ‘Fast pass’ for the Canteen.

As a school we know that homework makes a significant difference to learning and individual student outcomes. It is often those who have highly developed independent learning skills from completing homework that make the best progress and are successful in examinations. At Key Stage 3 students are supported to develop those skills so that they can work effectively at GCSE.

I am aware a number of students have struggled to manage the increase in homework from primary school. I would like to take the opportunity to promote our Homework Club, which is on every night afterschool (Monday-Thursday 3-4pm and Friday 3-3.30pm) in the Harbour. This is staffed by Learning Support Assistants who are able to help and support students.

This half term, as a way of recognising the fantastic effort in homework, I will be introducing the ‘Homework Heroes’ initiative. If a student in Year 7 hands in a particularly excellent piece of homework, they will be given a raffle ticket. This will then be given to me to put into a prize draw, with names picked out of a hat in assembly. Any student who has been recognised will also receive an email home, so you will be able to congratulate your son or daughter.

Please could you continue to support your child, by regularly checking their Class Charts account for any homework. If you do need any login details, please don’t hesitate to email homelearning@thehambleschool.co.uk

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Mrs Baldwin (Head of Year 7)

National Careers Week:

National Careers Week

National Careers Week is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on careers and the opportunities available in the world of work, when students have completed their education.

At The Hamble School, we are committed to providing our students with the Careers guidance needed to enable them to make well informed choices about their future. This is delivered through many platforms including PSHCRE lessons, Tutor programmes and assemblies. Students will also gain experiences of the world of work through trips/ visits and workshops within school. By the end of Year 11, all students will also have received one-to-one careers guidance through our partner Hampshire Futures.

Our Careers webpage is dedicated to providing students with detailed career guidance for example: advice on making GCSE choices, choosing and applying for Colleges and writing CVs and letters of application. Resources are regularly added to this page. https://www.thehambleschool.co.uk/careers/

Two particular resources that we would like to highlight this week include:

Careers Parent guide – A helpful document that provides parents/ carers with an insight into what the future holds for their children and how parent/ carer support can

help ensure successful futures: https://nationalcareersweek.com/parentsguide/

BBC Bitesize Careers – Careers guidance for students in all year groups, whether they are deciding what to study, taking exams, planning a career, or just curious. BBC Bitesize explains the world of work, with advice from people who’ve found the right path for them. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/careers

Should you or your child require further support and guidance or would like to book a priority Careers appointment, please contact careers@thehambleschool.co.uk

An essential part of Careers guidance, is ensuring parents/ carers and the school work together to provide accurate, suitable and detailed career support. Please take 2 minutes to complete the below survey about your understanding of Post-16 choices. https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=aZsq_XG0WEmUdjiv6gOlfcxIp3vPSoJJiSKJia9VG_FURVhaRUJaU0tINDBOVTNNRVE3Rkc2Uk5aNC4u

Year 11 – We are very pleased that 96% of our current Year 11s have now applied for their Post-16 placements at College or Apprenticeships. For those who have not yet applied, below are some College updates:

Fareham College – Still accepting applications from Year 11s and have another open event on Wednesday 4 May from 5pm- 8pm.  If any student requires further support in making an application, they can contact their Careers Centre Advisors at info@fareham.ac.uk.

City College – Application deadline is the end of March. There has been an increase in the number of applications this year and our interview slots are filling up fast. It is therefore increasingly important that students attend their allocated interview date and time.

Itchen College – Students are encouraged to apply by the end of May.

Year 10 – In June, we will have local Colleges visiting school to deliver assemblies to our Year 10 students who will be starting their application process very soon.
