Thank you to the parents/ carers who attended the Parent Forum on Wednesday – It is really important to us that we work together as ‘Team Hamble’ and we value the opinions of our community. If you have not already done so, please come the Uniform Consultation here: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/UniformReview2022 This will close at 5pm on Wednesday 25 May. We will then run a student and staff survey. All of the results will be shared with the Senior Leadership Team and Governors. Any small changes to uniform may be made for September 2022 (and communicated in summer term 2). If there are big changes these will not happen until September 2023, as we are aware that parents/ carers need plenty of warning.

One message which came from the Parent Forum was that some families were unaware that jumpers do not need to be worn in the summer term. We just wanted to clarify that we do not expect students to wear jumpers from Easter until July but ties and blazers must be worn all year round.

Next week is Week 1

Theme of the Week – Celebration

This week our assemblies will be delivered by the Heads of Year and will focus on our school value of ‘achievement’. We will be rewarding and celebrating successes this half term – this includes academic and pastoral. A reminder that you can also see how many reward points your child has achieved this half term by using the Class Charts app.

Student Congratulations

Well done to Ali S, Ollie B and Ben S-H, all in Year 9 and play for Bursledon Youth Rockets U14s – They won the Tommy Traynor Cup last weekend. The tournament final was played at Stoneham Football Stadium and the boys were brilliant. Congratulations!

Congratulations to our Year 8 bookmark winner Bethany and our Year 7 winner Madeleine.

Staff Congratulations

We believe in ‘lifelong learning’ at The Hamble School and work with Wildern SCITT, Southampton University and Portsmouth University to train new teachers. Sometimes (if vacancies are available) these trainees continue with us as new members of staff (Early Career Teachers). We were delighted to hear this week that Mr Wallace (Assistant Head of Maths) has been awarded the ‘above and beyond’ mentor award from Southampton University for his hard work supporting one of the PGCE Maths trainees. Congratulations, Mr Wallace – this was definitely deserved.

Anti-Bullying Ambassadors

All students have been invited to take part in the Anti-Bullying poster competition launched by the Anti-Bullying Ambassadors. Design (either by hand or on the computer) a poster to promote anti-bullying and hand it in to Mrs Pennington-Chick by Wednesday 25 May. The winning poster will be displayed around the school site and on our school website.

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

This year Her Majesty The Queen will mark a reign of 70 years, becoming the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. This is an event that both staff and students will never witness again in their life time. We are passionate about linking our curriculum to real world experience, therefore we want to recognise and celebrate this event. On Friday 25 May lessons in Years 7-10 will have a Royal/ Jubilee theme. We also invite all students (including Year 11) to wear red, white and blue as part of non-school uniform. Any student wishing to attend in non-school uniform will need to make a donation of £1 via Scopay or direct to tutors on the day. The School Council has researched a number of charities linked to the Royal Family (as a Patron) and students are currently voting on which charity they would like the money to go to.

Please remember:

  • All clothing and footwear must be sensible and fit to study in;
  • More clothes than exposed flesh, please;
  • No inappropriate slogans or imagery;
  • Normal make-up and jewellery rules apply
  • You will still need your usual equipment and if you have PE on Friday, you will need PE kit.

We do hope that you will encourage your child to take part but there is no obligation to do so.  Children who do not wish to take part can attend in their normal school uniform.

Year 11

A reminder that some of the afternoon GCSE exams continue after 2:55pm. Students are not allowed to leave early to catch the bus and will therefore need to make their own arrangements to get home.

Careers

Resources have been added to the school careers page to support Year 11 students with their next steps https://www.thehambleschool.co.uk/careers/

Message from the NHS

The NHS would like to encourage children aged between 5 and 15 years to get their COVID-19 vaccination, as soon as possible. The vaccine can reduce the risk of infection to your child as well as those around them, who may be more vulnerable to getting seriously ill if they catch the virus. Children can get vaccinated in several convenient locations including walk-in centres and community pharmacies. Parents can book an appointment to get their child vaccinated through the national booking centre or look online at www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination for their nearest walk-in centre. Children and adults who have had COVID-19 recently, should not book an appointment to get vaccinated until 12 weeks have passed since they tested positive. We understand that some parents may have questions or concerns about getting their child or themselves vaccinated. If you would like to talk to someone about this, please contact the Hampshire and Isle of Wight NHS vaccination helpline on 0300 561 0018.

Rewards

The students who achieved the most reward points last week were:

  • Nathaniel H 7-3
  • Luca V 8-4
  • Victor K-W 9-3
  • Charlie B 10-2
