This week we have been talking about ‘care’ in assemblies. Our school values include ‘We Care’ and in practice this means that we treat others and the environment with kindness and respect, showing consideration, tolerance and good manners. We have been particularly focusing on the impact we have on the environment – both locally and globally. Mrs Valleley launched the Environment Ambassadors this week and it has been so good to see many students signing up – this will make a real difference to everyone.

The next few weeks are very busy in school with lots of events. We say ‘good bye’ to Year 11 on Tuesday with their Leavers Assembly, but also welcome our new Year 7 cohort for Induction Evening. This point in the year is always a time of reflection and change, but we are really looking forward to the celebrations over the next 4 weeks.

The weather is due to be a cooler next week – please ensure your son/daughter bring their blazer and tie every day. They will be allowed to remove them in lessons.

Next week is Week 1.

Reminders

Please ensure that your child is attending school with all the required equipment, especially a pen and pencil. We are increasingly having to lend out items and this delays the start of lessons. If you have any financial concerns purchasing equipment, we are very happy to help and you should contact your child’s Head of Year. Equipment checks happen regularly in tutor and your son/ daughter will be sanctioned if they do not come to school with the correct items.

Theme of the Week: Diversity

This week the ‘Theme of the Week’ is ‘diversity’. At The Hamble School we believe that every young person deserves to see themselves, their family, and the full diversity of the world reflected in the curriculum and school activities. This week the assemblies will be focused on LGBTQ+ identities and issues. We will be encouraging students to respect those around them and appreciate difference. Miss Mawson and Mrs Bone have also been running a number of events for Pride Month, including the Pride Movie last week.

The keywords for this week are:

Diversity – The practice or quality of including a range or variety.

Dichotomy – A division or contrast between two things that are considered as being different.

Proud Friday

This week on Friday 1 July we are launching ‘Proud Friday’. We want all our students to have high expectations of themselves and be proud of the work they produce in lessons. We are inviting students from all year groups to bring a piece of work they are particularly proud of to the Year 7 canopy area on a Friday lunchtime. A member of the Senior Leadership Team will be there to congratulate them and issues some rewards.

Year 11 Leavers Assembly

The Year 11 Leavers Assembly will take place on Tuesday 28th June and will start promptly at 9.30am. Students are welcome to arrive onsite from 9.15am and go directly to the Main Hall. To gain entry to the Leavers Assembly, students must attend in full school uniform. The assembly will end at 10.30am and all Year 11 students will leave the school site by 10.45am. We understand that some students would like to have their school shirts signed as an additional item of memorabilia from their time at the school. If your child wishes to participate in this tradition, they must bring with them a second white shirt that can be used for this purpose.

Year 10 Exam Revision Breakfast

Continues this week in D3, from 7:45am-8:25am.  Revision resources and a breakfast snack are provided.  All of Year 10 students are welcome.

Year 7 PSHCRE

Year 7 students will be taking part in a PSHCRE morning on Thursday 30 June during lessons 1 and 2.  We are pleased to welcome Shannon Reddin, our Relationships and Sexual Health Practitioner, to the school, to deliver a talk about puberty called ‘Know Your Bits’.  We’ll also be welcoming Solent Mind, who’ll be talking to students about creating great habits for good mental health.  Students will receive more information about these sessions during the week, and we’ll also be asking them to fill out a survey on Class Charts to find out what they know so far about puberty.  Please contact Ms Bridges or Mrs Wilmott if you have any questions about these sessions.

Year 7 Marwell Zoo Geography Fieldtrip

Students need to attend tutor as normal on Wednesday 29 June and wear school uniform. They can wear trainers. Please bring a raincoat, sun hat and sun cream.  Students need to bring a packed lunch, a refillable bottle of water, pen, pencil and a clip board if you have one.

Applications are now open for House Captains for the next academic year. We will be selecting two students from each year group per House. Tutors have the application forms and the deadline is Friday 1 July. Successful applicants will be announced during the end of term Celebration Assemblies.
