At The Hamble School we encourage a love of reading with both our students and staff.
As in previous years, we chose to celebrate World Book Day across all year groups and hosted a number of events throughout the week based on the whole school theme of Harry Potter. The library held competitions to win signed books and a colouring competition to win some Harry Potter goodies. We also held our popular golden ticket competition where students won a free book and staff won a Waterstones gift voucher. Years 7 and 8 have been making bookmarks in their library lessons and we cannot wait to see the winners. We asked students to complete a footprint book review on their favourite story and these were used to decorate the London block to look like a big Marauder’s map.
On World Book Day itself we invited all students and staff to come as their favourite book characters. We had some amazing entries and the judges had the very difficult job of choosing winners.
Thomas Lacey was the overall winner for his Geralt of Rivia costume. Runners up included: Charlotte Webb, Isobel Thomas, Ronnie-May Carter, Theo Milchard and Melody Peet. Our Science team won the best department prize for their Alice in Wonderland theme.
Now we just need to start planning for next year.
