National Apprenticeship Week

National Apprenticeship Week 2022 is the 15th annual week-long celebration of apprenticeships.

The week brings together businesses and apprentices across the country to shine a light on the positive impact that apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider economy.

The theme for National Apprenticeship Week 2022 will be ‘build the future’. This will reflect on how apprenticeships can help individuals to develop the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career, and how businesses can develop a talented workforce that is equipped with future-ready skills.

At The Hamble School, approximately 5% of our Year 11s take up an apprenticeship on leaving school. Over the week there will be over 1200 live events taking place across the country. Vocabulary Strategy

This week we started a new strategy with students in all year groups aimed at increasing their literacy and understanding of vocabulary. Each subject has selected key words which they will focus on to increase knowledge of vocabulary and ensure students are able to apply words in written and oral communication. We have also started a new programme called PiXL Unlock in tutor time. Each week we will share the words with you that students are learning in the weekly session. We would encourage parents/ carers to talk about these with their children at home and use them in different contexts. The words will also align with our PSHCRE topics of the week.

The words students should know from last week are ….

  • Tolerance – The ability to tolerate the existence of opinions and behaviours that you dislike to disagree with.
  • Compassion – A strong feeling of sympathy for the suffering of others, often feeling a need to help them.

The words for this week are…

  • Demoralise – To cause someone to lose confidence or hope.
  • Surmount – To overcome something, an obstacle or problems.

Children’s Mental Health Week

Next week The Habour will be hosting assemblies to all year groups, promoting the ‘Ask Twice’ campaign. Students will also receive information on supporting their own emotional wellbeing and those of others around them. Resources are available for parents/ carers here: https://www.childrensmentalhealthweek.org.uk/parents-and-carers/

Safer Internet Day

Safer Internet Day is celebrated globally in February each year to promote the safe and positive use of digital technology for children and young people, and to inspire a national conversation about using technology responsibly, respectfully, critically, and creatively. We would encourage you to regularly take steps to ensure your child is safe online and using digital platforms appropriately.
