(School Centred Initial Teacher Training)

The Hamble School is proud of its commitment to develop teachers new to the profession. We work in partnership with a variety of providers to deliver a tailored programme of development and help many new teachers take their first steps onto the career ladder.

The Wildern Partnership – School-centred initial teacher training

The Wildern Partnership SCITT supports teachers in their development as lifelong learners, reflective practitioners and critical thinkers as they move from trainee to expert teacher. The Hamble School works in partnership with the SCITT to facilitate trainees’ understanding of how theory underpins practice. The Hamble School is one of the contexts where trainees are given opportunities to take the first steps in their teaching career.

The Wildern Partnership SCITT provision is cross phase and this is a significant strength. For much of the centre-based training the primary and secondary trainees work together, maximizing the sharing of practice and developing understanding of progression as pupils moves through different stages of their learning.

Professional development continues beyond the initial teacher training year and the Wildern Partnership offers opportunities for teachers to continue with their own learning. A significant advantage of working within the Partnership is the opportunity to work collaboratively with colleagues from other schools and to jointly develop practice.

The Hamble School also works in partnership with four local universities (Portsmouth, Southampton, Winchester and Chichester) and the Wildern SCITT centre. We provide placements for PGCEs and SCITT trainees in several departments. Every year The Hamble School hosts around 10 PGCEs/SCITT trainees with a success rate of 100%.

We also offer short placements and visits to aspiring teachers who want to know more about secondary school pedagogy, teaching in a fast-developing school and how to start working in education.
