This week we have been getting into the festive spirit. We have planned a variety of different activities over December to celebrate Christmas and support the community during this time. We will write to you later in the week detailing these events.

Our Student Leadership Team have been working hard this week putting together a response to the Urban Quarry Proposal – We will send out a copy of the letter on Wednesday and will be asking all students and staff to sign this. We are very concerned about this proposal due to the impact in terms of noise, air pollution, health risks, traffic and disruption to education. We would urge you, as parents/ carers, to read the information distributed by Hamble Parish Council here: https://hambleparishcouncil.gov.uk/hamble-airfield-application-latest-update-17-11-23/ and also put your own objections into Hampshire County Council. The deadline is 15 December 2023. You can also join the ‘Hamble Against Development’ Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/341011544616215/ for updates and further information.

Over the last few weeks we have been visiting our feeder (Hamble, Netley Abbey and Bursledon) primary schools to start the transition process with Year 6s. We have talked to the children about life at primary school and answering any questions or concern they may have. It has also been excellent to take former students from Year 7 back to the school, so that they can speak to the Year 6s.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the Community Initiatives – We have received a brilliant collection of items for our Food Bank and the Breakfast Club is running really effectively. Thank you to all our staff and parents/ carers who have donated, particularly at this time of year. If you would like to continue to donate to the Food Bank or have any clean clothes (for any age) that you would like to give to our Clothing Bank, please drop items off at reception at between 8am and 6pm – There is a box just inside the door. We are particularly look for smelly/ hygiene items as such as shower gel, deodorant, soap and toothbrushes/ toothpaste.

We would also like to thank Tesco for all their support – They have provided food items for both our Food Bank and Breakfast Club. You will also be able to donate food/ clothing for our community initiatives at Tesco Bursledon soon. Look out for our banner and collection box just inside the store.

Our Food Bank will be open to families who wish to collect food on Thursday 30 November 3:15pm-4:15pm. Please come onto site via the Satchell Lane entrance, turn right into the Skills Centre Car Park and use the door from the car park to go straight into the first classroom on the right. Our Student and Family Support Officers will be very happy to help you. If you cannot attend on this day/ time but would to reserve some food, you can complete the form here: https://forms.office.com/e/9cBj3V5twA and we will make sure we save some for you.

A reminder that if you would like your child to be considered for the Breakfast Club, you can register your interest here: https://forms.office.com/e/U7v3Cz4nww

Year 11 Update

This week has seen the end of the Mock Exams – On Friday we congratulated Year 11 on their hard work and effort in these exams. We are currently marking the papers and students will received their grades and feedback in lessons. Parents/ carers will receive a report before the end of term and Parents’ Evening is on Thursday 4 January. In the meantime, Mrs Barkshire (Progress Leader), Mr Bailey (Assistant Progress Leader), Miss Hoey (Attendance Officer) and Mrs Valleley (Deputy Headteacher) will be inviting parents/ carers into school on Thursday 7 December 2023 if we are concerned about your child’s progress or attendance. We will work together tp write plans to ensure we can support your son/ daughter further.

A reminder that afterschool intervention has now started again – Please ensure that your child attends on a Tuesday and Thursday to ensure they receive this vital support.

If you son/ daughter has a Mentor it is important that they meet with their Mentor on the day designated to the mentor meeting. Staff are giving up their break/ lunch times to do this and it is really important for student success in exams. We will provide one-to-one or small group advice, hints and tips.

We are currently encouraging Year 11 to ensure that they are always fully engaged in lessons and using the 5 hours a day they spend in class really effectively. Over the next fortnight teachers will be awarded ‘Double Reward Points’ to all students who demonstrate a positive Attitude to Learning. A reminder that these points count towards the Prom totals.

Parent Forum

We would like to look at how we can encourage more parents/ carers to come along and after the meeting on last week, agreed that we would survey you to see if a better time/ method would work. Please complete the quick form here by https://forms.office.com/e/B59MBJKMJH Monday 27 November to register your views, if you have not already done so.
