Theme of the Week – Celebration
This week we have our half-termly Celebration Assemblies. In assemblies and in tutor time students will be celebrating their successes, both in academic studies and through extra-curricular and wider opportunities. Students will also focus on how they can set goals for next half term. Action planning, organisation and setting goals with milestones are all important skills needed to is important to increase the chance of success.
Students have lots of different opportunities to achieve success within school. This could be demonstrating a positive attitude to learning in their lessons, completing homework to a good standard or taking part in extra-curricular opportunities. Many students also represent the school in competitions and have been working really hard these half term on their Student Leadership Award.
This Week at the Dinner Table…
- What achievement are you most proud of this half term and why?
- If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
- If you could change anything in the world, what 3 things would it be and why?
- What goals would you like to set yourself for next half term?
- What is your greatest strength and your greatest weakness?

Year 9 Boys Football Team
On Wednesday 5 February our Year 9 Boys Football team, played in the English Schools FA Cup last 16, against Newquay Tretherras (Cornwall). After a 4 ½ hour coach journey for our opposition, it was important that we started fast. After soaking up early pressure we hit them on the counter attack with Louis P scoring an early goal. This then set the tone for the rest of the match, with Hamble applying constant pressure to Newquay’s defence. Goals followed from Remy N and Lewis S before Sam B coolly scored a penalty to lead 4-0 at half-time.
Malik Al-S W, Frankie R and Charlie E confidently dealt with any attacks early in the second half with Jakub K called upon once to make an important save. The Hamble School continued to threaten on the counter attack and a fifth goal took the sting out of the game. The game finished in spectacular fashion with Rico W scoring from a free-kick to leave the final score 6-0.
The draw for the quarter-finals was made later that evening. With The Hamble School drawn at home to either Northampton School for Boys (last year’s beaten finalists) or Haberdashers’ Boys’ School.

Key aspects that are also covered are the legal definitions of sexual harassment and sexual violence.
On Friday 14 February, Year 11 will spend an hour with our external experts, Shannon Reddin and Ellie Tate, learning about types of relationship, healthy relationships and how to identify unhealthy relationships.
Year 9 Science Class Change
An update regarding Year 9 Science classes. After the half term break we will be making some changes to Year 9 Science classes and most Year 9 students will find their Science class are different.
We have looked at the data carefully and believe that grouping students into Focussed Teaching Groups (like Year 10 and 11) will help them further progress, especially with GCSEs coming up next year. Although the groups are changing, all classes will continue to cover the same content.
This decision has been made to ensure your child achieves the very best outcomes, and we will keep monitoring things to ensure every student is in the right group. All Year 9 students will receive a new timetable on the Monday after half term, showing their new class and teacher.
