This week we have had lots of trips and events going and it has been wonderful to see students engaging in activities outside of the classroom. As the end of term approaches, we are also still very much focussed on learning in lessons and we were delighted to welcome Education Consultant Amjad Ali to The Hamble School on Friday. He spent time working with Middle Leaders in English, Maths, Science and Humanities. Much of his visit was spent completing learning walks and he commented on how well-behaved students were across the school and how they were engaged in lessons.

We are delighted to introduce you to our new Student Leadership team for 2024-25. An unprecedented number of students successfully applied for positions of responsibility within our Student Leadership Team. The standard of application and subsequent interviews this year has been astonishing, demonstrating the incredible depth in quality of our Year 10 students. This Week at the Dinner Table

This week we are focusing on celebrating success and feeling proud of our achievements. We would encourage you to talk to your son/ daughter about everything they have managed to accomplish this year both inside and outside of the classroom:

  1. What are you most proud of this year in school?
  2. What are you most proud of this year outside of school?
  3. What targets have you achieved this year?
  4. Are there any targets you set this year that you don’t think you achieved and will want to continue to work on next year?
  5. What’s your most important thing to focus on from the beginning of September?

Theme of the Week – End of Year Reflections

The theme of this week is ‘Reflections and Celebrations’. The students in Years 7-10 will be reflecting on their 2023-24 academic year, looking back on their targets that they set at the beginning of the year and reviewing to what extent they have achieved these. This will be a great opportunity to share some successes within the tutor groups and students to start to think about what they want to achieve in the 2024-25 academic year.

Year 6 Primary to Secondary School Transition

On Monday this week, as part of our collaboration with Network Rail, Netley Abbey Junior School will be travelling up to The Hamble School via the train to have a safety presentation delivered by the railway safety officers. They will be looking at ways to keep children safe when travelling on the train, the dangers and risks associated with train lines as well as how to get help if required.

Last week, Miss Cambridge and Mr Andrews went to Netley Abbey Junior and Bursledon Junior Schools, as part of our ‘Dates on the Gates’ event, to answer any questions from Year 6 parents/carers before coming up to us in September. They also took the opportunity to watch the Year 6 drama productions. Miss Cambridge and Mr Andrews thoroughly enjoyed the performances and hope that these children all get involved in drama when they start at The Hamble School.

This week, it’s Hamble Primary School’s turn with their ‘Dates on the Gates’ and Year 6 production on Friday 19 July. Miss Cambridge will be at the gates in the morning and then will watch the Hamble Primary Year 6 production at 9:30am.

Sports Update

It has been an action-packed week of sport at The Hamble School. On Wednesday Mr Taylor took our Year 9 Sports Leaders to help run and support The Hampshire Athletics Championships. This is an event which involves teams from each district across Hampshire and Isle of Wight. Emmie P (Year 7), who represented Eastleigh and Winchester Schools, became County Long Jump Champion with a winning jump of 4.36m. This helped Eastleigh and Winchester come 2nd overall in the County competition. We are really proud of Emmie and our Sports Leaders.

On Thursday the PE Department hosted the Whole-School Sports Day. Each year group took part in a 1-hour team competition, with students representing their House in either; football, tennis, benchball or OOA problem solving activities. In the afternoon the whole school came together for an extravaganza of track and field activities alongside the tug of war and alternative races (such as the egg and spoon race and three-legged races). The level of competition and engagement from students was fantastic and resulted in a lovely day of healthy sport and competition. The results of the winning House will be announced in the rewards assemblies next week, although we did share a sneaky preview of the track and field results on social media!

PSHCRE Events

Over the next week we have a number of PSHCRE events going in school:
