Well done to Year 11 for all your hard work and dedication this week. You have been incredibly focussed with your exams.

Year 10 have been completing their practice walks today for Duke of Edinburgh and it is great to see so many students getting involved this year.

Congratulations to the Year 9 Boys’ Football Team who have won the league this week. The team won 6-0 against Cantell with goals from Will B (X3), Charlie B (X2) and Charlie P. Mr Denford (PE Teacher and Coach) said ‘they were absolutely fantastic and at times, completely unplayable. A member of staff from the opposing team described them as the best school football team he had ever seen’! Congratulations and we look forward to receiving the official photos with the silverware from the professional photographer!

Theme of the Week – Celebration

This week, our assemblies and tutor development programme will focus on ‘Celebrating Success’. As the half-term draws to a close, we will encourage students to reflect on their achievements.

We will emphasise the importance of reflection, acknowledging personal growth, academic progress, and contributions to our school community. Celebrating these successes builds confidence and fosters a positive mindset.

Looking ahead, we will also guide students in setting realistic and ambitious goals for next term. This process includes identifying areas for improvement and developing strategies to accelerate their success. By setting clear targets, students can maintain momentum and approach the new term with renewed focus.

We believe that recognising and celebrating success, coupled with proactive goal-setting, empowers our students to thrive. We encourage you to discuss your child’s achievements and aspirations with them, reinforcing the positive messages they have received this week.

This week we will also be holding our Celebration Assemblies, where we will have the opportunity to celebrate the incredible achievements of our students. These assemblies are a wonderful occasion to recognise hard work, dedication and the many successes our students have accomplished, both academically and personally.

We are incredibly proud of all of our students and the effort they put into their learning. These assemblies allow us to come together as a school community to celebrate the achievements this term.

This Week at the Dinner Table

  1. What are you most proud of this half-term?
  2. What have your achieved in lessons?
  3. What have you achieved outside of lessons?
  4. What are your targets for next half-term?
  5. What would you like to achieve by the end of the school year?

Uniform

As the weather has turned warmer, a reminder that students may wear Hamble shorts which can be purchased from our supplier, Skoolkit https://www.skoolkit.co.uk/school-uniform/41

We are also always keen to reuse any preloved uniform especially blazers, ties, skirts and trousers.  Any donations can be dropped into the school reception by Parents/ Carers or to SWS by students.

Detentions

Detentions are an important part of the school’s behaviour system and as such, all students must attend their detention unless there is a medical appointment confirmed by Parents/ Carers.  Please support the school by ensuring that you remind your child to attend their detention on the set day.  Detentions can be viewed on Class Charts.

Class Charts

Class Charts is the main method of communication with Parents/ Carers regarding behaviour and homework.  Please email classcharts@thehambleschool.co.uk if you are having trouble logging in or setting up an account.  As part of our home school agreement it is expected that Parents/ Carers check Class Charts regularly so thank you for your support with this.

Communication

A reminder that your child’s tutor is the first point of contact for any questions/ concerns. They can be contacted via general@thehambleschool.co.uk Please ensure that your email is marked ‘FAO – Tutor Name’. Tutors will then reply within 48 working hours. As teachers are teaching during the school day, they cannot take calls or meet with Parents/ Carer unless this is booked in advance, therefore, we would appreciate it if you use email as the main form of communication. If there is an emergency situation, please do call the school, however, any other questions should be directed through the general@thehambleschool.co.uk email address.

The only exception to the above, is if you need to contact the school regarding a safeguarding concern. Any safeguarding issues can be reported using the ‘Report It’ button on the website or via staysafe@thehambleschool.co.uk

Year 10 Update

We are just starting the Year 10 to 11 Transition Programme. The first event is the Achieving Excellence Evening on Thursday 22 May. Please do attend this – It is open to all students and Parents/ Carers in Year 10 and is an opportunity for you to come into school together and find out about the Year 10 Exams, revision, Study Skills and exam techniques.

We will be sending home the Year 10 Exam timetable and revision lists before half term. These exams will be in the Sports Hall/ Skills Centre and will be formal exams, just like the GCSEs. We have factored into the plan the other events Year 10 might like to attend around this time, such as Rewards Trips, college taster days and D of E.

Further information about the Year 10 to 11 Transition will be communicated in due course.

Year 11 Update

Year 11 have been doing so well with their exams and they have demonstrated commitment, dedication and resilience over the last few weeks. Next week is a busy one for exams and some students have a ‘clash exam’ on Wednesday afternoon. If your son/ daughter takes RS and Engineering, they have to sit one paper after another. This is a national clash and not something the school has scheduled. These students must bring plenty of snacks and water as they will take the RS paper, then have a 20-minute break in exam conditions, to eat/drink and go to the toilet. They will then sit the Engineering paper. We anticipate that the students taking both RS and Engineering will finish at 5:30pm. Please ensure that you have arranged transport for them to get home as they will not be able to leave earlier.

During half term the following subjects will be offering revision sessions:

  • Maths
  • Triple Science
  • History
  • Geography
  • French
  • Spanish

The days are listed below, but students will receive a personalised timetable with exact timings early next week. For all other subjects, students are expected to follow their own revision timetables over half term using the resources provided by teachers and revision guides. We also suggest that they spend some time relaxing to prepare for the exams after half term.

Tuesday 27 May (AM) Geography, Spanish, History
Tuesday 27 May (PM) History
Wednesday 28 May (AM) Triple Science
Thursday 29 May (AM) French, History
Thursday 29 May (PM) History
Friday 30 May (AM) History
Sunday 1 June (AM) Maths and Statistics

Please note that History are providing multiple sessions so that all the topics can be covered – Germany, Cold War and Elizabeth.
