Theme of the Week – Headteacher Update and House Events
As we return for the first week of the new term, our school community will focus on the House events over the next few weeks. The House System celebrates teamwork, achievement and belonging. Each house will meet in an assembly to reflect on recent successes, set goals for the term ahead and reinforce the values that make our school such a vibrant place to learn and grow.
In addition to the excitement of House Assemblies, Miss Cambridge (Headteacher) will provide an important update based on the student survey conducted before the break. This survey gave students a voice in shaping their school experience and we are pleased to share some key outcomes with students.
As part of Personal Development time, students will be encouraged to set meaningful goals and resolutions for 2026. This activity is designed to help them reflect on their achievements, identify areas for growth and plan steps toward success in both academic and personal areas. By fostering a culture of self-improvement and resilience, we aim to empower every student to take ownership of their learning journey and make the most of the opportunities ahead.

Reminder: Year 11 Parents’ Evening – Thursday 8 January
This is a reminder that our Year 11 Parents’/ Carers’ Evening will take place on Thursday 8 January. It is essential that every parent attends, as this event is a key part of supporting your child in the run-up to their GCSE exams.
During the evening, teachers will share personalised revision materials designed to help students focus on the areas that will make the biggest impact. These resources are tailored to each student and will be invaluable for their preparation.
Please make sure you have booked your appointments. Full details, including the booking link, can be found in the letter https://www.thehambleschool.co.uk/letters-to-parents/ on our school website.
Your support at this stage is crucial. We look forward to seeing you there!
Get Ready for Monday – Uniform and Equipment Check
As we prepare to start the new term, we kindly ask all Parents/ Carers to ensure that uniform and equipment are fully sorted over the weekend so students are ready for learning on Monday.
Please check that your child has:
- Full school uniform, including correct shoes and any PE kit needed.
- Essential equipment such as pens, pencils, ruler, calculator and any subject-specific items.
- Their planner and any homework completed.
Starting the week prepared helps students feel confident and focused, and avoids unnecessary disruption to learning. Thank you for your support in making sure everything is organised in advance.
The uniform and equipment details are all available here: https://www.thehambleschool.co.uk/uniform/
Class Charts – Why Daily Checks Matter
Class Charts is an essential tool for both students and Parents/ Carers at The Hamble School. It provides up-to-date information that helps everyone stay organised, informed, and ready for learning. Checking Class Charts daily is crucial to ensure nothing is missed.
Why is it important?
- Students can keep track of homework and deadlines.
- Parents/ Carers can monitor behaviour, rewards, and attendance.
- It supports communication between school and home, helping students stay on top of their responsibilities.
What can you find on Class Charts?
- Homework– tasks set by teachers with due dates.
- Behaviour points– positive and negative points recorded.
- Rewards– achievements and recognition for effort.
- Detentions– details of any sanctions and times.
- Attendance information– daily and overall attendance.
- Announcements– important messages from school.
- Timetable– your child’s lesson schedule.
- Reports and progress updates– when published.
Tip: Make it part of your daily routine – a quick check each evening ensures students are prepared and Parents/ Carers are informed.
Communicating with The Hamble School – What Parents/ Carers Need to Know
We value strong communication between school and home, and we want to ensure that all parents know the best ways to get in touch with us.
Your First Point of Contact
If you have a question or concern about your child, their tutor should always be your first point of contact. Tutors know your child best and can help resolve most issues quickly.
You can email the tutor via: general@thehambleschool.co.uk (please include your child’s name and tutor group in the subject line).
Please note: Any changes to tutors after Christmas have already been communicated to Parents/ Carers. The Pastoral structure is available here: https://www.thehambleschool.co.uk/pastoral-care/
Response Time
Please allow up to 48 working hours for a response. Staff are committed to replying as soon as possible, but this timeframe ensures they can balance communication with their teaching responsibilities.
Appointments Are Essential
Please do not come to school without an appointment. This helps us keep students safe and ensures staff are available to support you properly. If you need to meet someone, please arrange this in advance.
Phone Calls – For Emergencies
Our phone lines should be used for urgent matters only. Teachers spend most of their day teaching and therefore cannot take phone calls until the end of the school day. They are also often in meetings or training after lessons, so email remains the most effective way to reach them.
If You Are Not Satisfied
We always aim to answer questions and concerns as effectively as possible. However, if you are not satisfied with a response, there are additional people you can speak to:
- Head of Department for subject-specific matters.
- Progress Leader for pastoral concerns.
Opportunities to Visit the School
We enjoy welcoming Parents/ Carers into school at the right times. Key events include:
- Parents’ Evenings
- Achieving Excellence Evenings
- Parent Forums and Coffee Mornings
These occasions are important for building strong partnerships and supporting your child’s success. Look out for dates in our weekly Messages and on the website.
Thank you for working with us to keep communication clear and effective.
Bike Registration
The local Police are going to be running bike registration sessions for students who wish to have their new or existing bikes security marked. This will take place by the Bike Sheds after school on Tuesday 13 January.
