Last week we welcomed Year 5 students from Netley abbey Junior School into THS for a fantastic Arts Morning. The children engaged in a number of different lessons and had the opportunity to listen to music performed by some of our students. On the same day Year 6 children joined us with their Parents/ Carers for Induction Evening and we look forward to welcoming them for their Induction Days next week.
It has also been a busy time for our current students. Our Year 11s celebrated the end of exams with their Leavers Assembly. Year 10 have been working hard in their Mock Exams and we have provided a number of different trips/ visits over the last week.
One of the trips was a visit to the University of Southampton for the Spelling Bee. We are delighted to report that our students won the competition! Congratulations to you all.
The weather is looking much cooler this week, so blazers need to be back on. They can, of course, be taken off in classrooms and when in zone at break/ lunch.

Theme of the Week – Anti Bullying and Cyber Bullying
This week we will be dedicating our assembly and tutor programme to a crucial theme: Anti Bullying, with a particular focus on Cyber Bullying. In an increasingly digital world, understanding online interactions is more important than ever for our secondary school students.
Our assembly will provide a comprehensive overview of online behaviour. We will be exploring the distinction between general unkindness online and Cyber Bullying, helping students to recognise the difference. The session will also delve into the reasons why individuals might engage in unkind or bullying behaviour online, and, crucially, the profound effects these actions can have on victims. Most importantly, we will be empowering students by discussing effective strategies for standing up for themselves and each other in the online space, alongside reinforcing the vital importance of reporting any instances of online unkindness or Cyber Bullying.
Building on the assembly’s themes, the tutor programme throughout the week will offer a more in-depth, interactive experience. Students will work through various scenarios designed to encourage critical thinking. These scenarios will prompt discussions around the motivations behind a perpetrator’s actions and the impact on the victim. A key element of these sessions will be for students to analyse specific situations and determine whether they constitute unkindness or Cyber Bullying, and what appropriate actions should be taken in each case.
We believe this focused week will equip our students with essential knowledge and practical tools to navigate the complexities of online interactions safely and respectfully. We encourage you to discuss these topics with your children at home, reinforcing the messages they will receive in school.
Year 7 PSHCRE Day
Year 7 have PSHCRE day on Monday 23 June on the theme of ‘Healthy me’ All Year 7 students will be following a collapsed timetable and have a blended programme of internal and external speakers and sessions.
Students will be in normal uniform and will be getting changed for their PE session. Please ensure that your child brings the correct kit. Students will also need to bring their PSHCRE books and writing equipment.
Quarry Winchester Protests

Year 10 College Taster Days – Barton Peveril
With the Taster Days fast approaching, please read the following information if your child is going to Barton Peveril. This has been sent by the college:

Clothing Expectation
Students are permitted to wear non-school uniform but this must be appropriate for a college environment. Normal jewellery and make up rules apply. Please do ensure that you bring writing equipment and a water bottle.
Lunch Arrangements
A BBQ lunch will be available for purchase at £5 per student in the Science Quad. Alternatively, please bring a packed lunch or the college catering outlets will also be open, offering a variety of food and drink to purchase.
Arrival: Students travelling independently must follow these instructions
Students must make their way to the college field upon arrival. All schools attending the day will have an allocated area on the field to register and collect a coloured lanyard provided by the college. Staff and student ambassadors will be present at the gates to welcome children and guide them to their location.
For pick-up and drop-off
Students will need to be dropped off safely along Chestnut Avenue. When dropping off students, please be considerate of the residents in the surrounding area.
Departure
Departure will be from 2:15pm. Students waiting for pick-up can wait by the front of reception.
What Do Students Need to Bring?
Students are expected to bring pens, paper/notebook, a water bottle, money for lunch (cash/card), or they can bring a packed lunch. Additionally, if students wish to bring in their laptop, they can.
First Lesson
At the beginning of students’ first lesson, teachers will go through the welcome slides, which will contain information about what to expect from the day and the fire evacuation procedure.
