Last week more year groups enjoyed their Reward Trips with visits to Chessington and Legoland. Everyone has a great time. We also took over 40 students to Winchester to protest against the proposed Quarry next to the school. The Inquiry has now ended and the final decision will be announced in the Autumn. Thank you to all the Parents/ Carers for your support allowing your children to attend and paying for the coach. We received excellent feedback from the community.
In school we hosted the Hampshire Attendance Hub last week, with Headteachers and Senior Leaders from across Hampshire visiting the school, as well as an NHS Parent Focus Group. We welcomed prospective Year 5 students and their Parents/ Carers to look round and see the school in action and hosted Year 6 Transition Consultation Evenings.
Year 10 visited Barton Peveril and Itchen Colleges and some students also too part in (a very hot) Duke of Edinburgh Expedition at the weekend. A reminder that Year 10 return to exams this week; please do ensure that they look at the timetable and bring equipment (and a clear water bottle) with them.
Next week is WEEK 1

Theme of the Week
This week students will be participating in our final Careers Week of the year. The Personal Development session in tutor and their assembly will be centred around Green Careers.
Green skills and careers are those that contribute to preserving or restoring the environment and our planet. It’s important to spread the awareness that all future careers will likely need an element of sustainability and green skills embedded into them, in order for us to transition into a lower carbon world.
If you would like more information about Green Careers to help initiate conversations at home, then please look at the government website https://nationalcareers.service.gov.uk/careers-advice/green-careers
Uniform – Monday and Tuesday
As I am sure you are aware, the weather is forecast to be warmer on Monday/ Tuesday next week. Consequently students do not need to wear blazers or ties on Monday/ Tuesday; they can also undo their top button.
It is important that all students bring a large refillable water bottle. They can refill using the water fountains before school, at breaktime, lunchtime and after school. It is important that they stay hydrated.
At break/ lunch our duty staff will be encouraging students to stay in the shade under the canopies/ trees or in the main hall.
We will review the weather on Tuesday and update you about the rest of the week in due course; currently the forecast is set to be much cooler at the end of the week.
Welcoming Our New Year 7s!
Next Monday and Tuesday, we are thrilled to host our Year 6 Transition Induction Days, welcoming students who will be joining us in Year 7 this September. These days are designed to help them feel comfortable and excited about starting secondary school. A significant part of their time will be spent within their new tutor groups, getting to know their tutor and peers, fostering new friendships, and building a strong sense of community. They will also get a fantastic introduction to some of the subjects they’ll study with engaging taster lessons on both days. To ensure they feel fully supported, our wonderful Year 9 Transition Prefects will be by their side throughout, helping them settle in and feel completely at ease for September.
Groundbreaking Start to Site Development!
Get ready to see some exciting changes around school as we kick off our significant site development project. This ambitious undertaking will transform our campus over the next 18 months. We were incredibly impressed by the enthusiasm shown, with 65 students from Years 7-9 putting themselves forward for the Site Development Leadership Team. After reviewing many strong applications, we have selected 11 students based on the quality of their submissions and their consistent demonstration of our school’s high expectations. This dedicated team will be instrumental in keeping you informed through regular weekly message updates, sharing news in tutor groups, and even participating in press briefings. They’ll also have the unique opportunity to document the entire journey using cutting-edge equipment. Look out for their first update on the site development projects, which will be included next week.
Year 7 Focus on “Healthy Me”
Last Monday, our Year 7 students had a highly successful PSHCRE drop-down day focusing on the crucial theme of “Healthy Me.” The day was packed with valuable learning about physical, mental, and financial health. Students really engaged with sessions on how to effectively look after their mental well-being, including practical strategies for support. They also explored the importance of healthy living and eating, alongside gaining essential knowledge about managing finances, understanding credit, and navigating debt responsibly. The day concluded with an insightful and age-appropriate session delivered by our external provider, Enrich RSE, which covered changes during puberty, healthy relationships, and the vital concept of consent. It was a truly enriching day for all our Year 7s.
Free School Meals
If your child is eligible for free school meals, we want to encourage you to register them.
Why register for free school meals?
Students who are registered for free school meals don’t have to eat them if you prefer them to have packed lunches. But registering them is still important because for every child registered for free school meals, the school gets more funding from the government.
For every student registered for free school meals, the school gets an extra £1,050 (in 2024/25) and £1,075 (in 2025/26) through ‘pupil premium’ funding.
You can find more information about pupil premium on our website at:
https://www.thehambleschool.co.uk/pupil-premium/
Is my child eligible for free school meals?
If you receive these benefits, your child may be eligible:
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) or Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit (as long as you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit) if you have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190
- Working Tax Credit run-on, but not if you receive Working Tax Credit
- Universal Credit, if your earned income after tax is £616.67 per month (£7,400 per year) or less
How do I register?
To check your child’s eligibility for pupil premium or continued free school meals, use the online checking facility.
To complete a check, you need the following information for yourself or the person you are checking on behalf of:
- Your own name, date of birth, and contact details
- National Insurance number or National Asylum Seekers number
- Child’s name and date of birth
- School your child is attending or will attend.
For information on registering for free school meals if you are a household with no recourse to public funds (NRPF), see the FAQs on the following pages.

School Nurse Clinic Pilot
The Hampshire Public Health School Nursing Service are committed to making support for health and wellbeing needs more accessible to Parents/ Carers, children and young people. We will be piloting a school nurse clinic at The Hamble School on Monday 30 June 2025. The aim of this clinic is to provide the opportunity for young people to discuss any aspect of their health and wellbeing with a registered nurse.
If successful, one School Nurse Clinic will be held at The Hamble School each half term. During each clinic, the nurse will have the opportunity to meet with 4 students. Referrals will be made in two ways. Firstly, the school will use the clinics to make referrals for students whom we deem would benefit from the service; we will of course notify and consult with Parents/ Carers prior to the referral. Secondly, Parents/ Carers can also request for their child to be seen at the clinic by completing the following form: https://forms.office.com/e/XRTWPNBRx0
Please note that this service is not for regular illness or emergencies. The School Nurses can provide support with physical wellbeing, sleep, healthy living and health relationships. For more information about the school nursing service, please see our website: https://www.hampshirehealthyfamilies.org.uk/
The School Nurse will also be available on the day of the clinic in the Student Hub at lunch time for general support and guidance.
HPV Catch Ups
HPV catch ups are due to take place for Year 8, 9 and 10 students on Monday 7 July. Parents/ Carers of students who need the catch have been contacted separately so please make sure you return consent forms as soon as possible.
