Theme of the Week – Celebration

This week, our assemblies and tutor development programme will focus on ‘Celebrating Success’. As the term draws to a close, we will encourage students to reflect on their achievements.

We will emphasise the importance of reflection, acknowledging personal growth, academic progress, and contributions to our school community. Celebrating these successes builds confidence and fosters a positive mindset.

Looking ahead, we will also guide students in setting realistic and ambitious goals for next term. This process includes identifying areas for improvement and developing strategies to accelerate their success. By setting clear targets, students can maintain momentum and approach the new term with renewed focus.

We believe that recognising and celebrating success, coupled with proactive goal-setting, empowers our students to thrive. We encourage you to discuss your child’s achievements and aspirations with them, reinforcing the positive messages they have received this week.

This week we will also be holding our Celebration Assemblies, where we will have the opportunity to celebrate the incredible achievements of our students. These assemblies are a wonderful occasion to recognise hard work, dedication and the many successes our students have accomplished, both academically and personally.

We are incredibly proud of all of our students and the effort they put into their learning and development. These assemblies allow us to come together as a school community to celebrate the achievements this term.

We look forward to celebrating with the students and sharing in their successes. If you would like to nominate a member of staff for ‘Staff Recognition’ this half term, please complete the form here: https://www.thehambleschool.co.uk/staff-recognition/

K9 Visit

On Friday The Hamble School welcomed a visit from specially trained K9 detection dogs as part of our ongoing commitment to safeguarding and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all our students. This initiative is a proactive measure to make sure that our school remains a safe, secure environment for everyone.

The K9s worked alongside their handlers to carry out a routine search of school grounds including classrooms. This also provided a valuable opportunity for students to interact with the handlers, ask questions, and learn about the role of detection dogs in promoting safety.

We want to reinforce a clear message to our community: The Hamble School will not tolerate drugs or any form of substance misuse in the school community. We take the safety of our students and staff very seriously, and we are committed to creating an environment where every child can learn and grow without fear or distraction.

Thank you for your continued support in helping us maintain a safe and positive school environment.

Knife Arch

As part of our continued commitment to student safety and promoting a secure environment, we are pleased to inform you that The Hamble School will be participating in a Knife Arch Initiative during the summer term. This is part of a Hampshire Police education programme and will be a temporary measure. This initiative involves the use of a knife arch at the school gates to enhance security and deter the presence of dangerous weapons on school grounds.

The knife arch is a safe and non-invasive method used by schools around the country. It is designed to detect any items that could pose a risk to the safety of our students and staff. This initiative is part of a wider effort to educate and remind students of our firm stance against any form of violence or harm.

While the knife arch will be in place at the school gates, students will still be able to go about their day-to-day activities as usual. The focus is on prevention and creating a clear message that The Hamble School remains a place where safety and wellbeing are paramount.

We will be communicating with Parents/ Carers ahead of the initiative to ensure they understand its purpose and are aware that it is part of our broader strategy to ensure a safe community.

Year 8 Preferences

This week the link to the Preferences Form has been distributed to students’ school email addresses, with instructions for students on how to access these. During tutor time next week, students will be looking at what is means to make positive choices that will support them in the future. The deadline for Preferences Forms to be submitted is Tuesday 22 April. If you have any questions about the Preferences process, please email general@thehambleschool.co.uk.

Arts Week

A reminder that it is Arts Week this week. As previously communicated, Year 7 students need to wear full Hamble PE kit on Monday 31 March. Further information about the activities was detailed in last week’s Weekly Message.

Quarry Protest

If you have signed up for your child to Protest against the proposed Quarry in Winchester on Tuesday, please ensure you have completed the Evolve form by 2:30pm on Monday 31 March 2025.

Year 11 Update

After school intervention will take place on Tuesday and Thursday this week. Easter intervention timetables and data reports were emailed home last week. If you have not received any of these documents, please notify us by sending an email to general@thehambleschool.co.uk

Homework

The completion of high-quality Homework is important to academic success and students who complete homework on time and to a good standard achieve better outcomes at the end of Year 11. It is also important for students to develop effective study habits. Last half term we trialled increasing the negative points for not completing homework to -2. Both student, staff and parent voice supported this move as everyone agreed that students were more likely to complete the work if they knew that there would be a sanction for not doing it. After Easter, therefore, failure to complete homework will carry -2 points. A reminder that students can attend Homework Club at lunchtimes and after school to get support with this.
