Welcome to this week’s edition of The Hamble School Weekly Message. It has been a fantastic and busy week across our community, filled with achievements, enrichment opportunities and valuable conversations.
It was truly wonderful to see the incredible talent and dedication of our Year 10 and 11 students as they performed in the Dance Showcase—their hard work, creativity and confidence shone through in every routine. It was equally fantastic to see everyone come together for the KS3 Achieving Excellence Evening. This was a great opportunity for Parents/ Carers and children to engage in English, Maths and Science workshops.
A huge well done to our Year 7 Boys’ Football Team for their brilliant league win—an outstanding achievement and a great start to their sporting journey at The Hamble School. We also send our congratulations to the Year 10 Boys’ Football Team, who secured an impressive victory in their National Cup game this week – The full report will appear next week. We are incredibly proud of all the students involved.
Thank you to all the Parents/ Carers who attended the Parent Forum on Site Development. Your feedback, ideas and support are greatly appreciated, and it was a pleasure to share our plans for the future of the school site. Mr Loveridge also revealed that the Year 10 Canopy is now complete and students have enjoyed using it this week.
We have been delighted to follow the updates from our Year 9 and 10 students currently in Iceland. It sounds like they are having an amazing time exploring the country’s stunning landscapes and unique geography—a truly memorable experience for everyone involved.
Looking ahead, next week promises to be equally exciting. We hope to see many of you at our Music Concert on Tuesday, and we look forward to welcoming families to the Parent Coffee Morning on Wednesday. On Thursday, we celebrate the achievements of our older students at the Year 12 Presentation Evening, and the week concludes with a warm and festive Year 7 Grandparents’ Christmas Event on Friday.
We wish everyone a wonderful weekend and week ahead.

Theme of the Week: Sustainability
This week, our assemblies and tutor time personal development sessions are focusing on a theme of paramount importance: Sustainability. In a world facing increasing environmental challenges, empowering our students to become informed, responsible global citizens who understand their impact on the planet is more crucial than ever.
Why Sustainability Matters This Week
Our goal is to move beyond simply recycling and encourage a deeper understanding of what sustainability truly means—balancing our current needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. Discussions this week will cover practical aspects, such as reducing waste, conserving energy and water and making sustainable choices in diet and consumption. We are also exploring the link between individual actions and wider global issues like climate change and biodiversity loss.
We know that many of these conversations already happen at home and we are aiming to amplify these positive messages and provide a structured framework for critical thinking and action within the school environment. The students will be asked to consider the environmental impact of the school itself, as well as their own daily routines.
Introducing Our New Eco-Ambassadors
The most exciting development this week is the relaunch and expansion of our Eco-Ambassador leadership group.
This dedicated team of student volunteers will be at the forefront of driving sustainable change within the school. This isn’t just a committee; it’s a genuine leadership opportunity. The ambassadors will be responsible for:
- Auditing the school’s environmental performance (e.g., energy use, waste management).
- Leading campaigns to promote eco-friendly behaviours among their peers.
- Collaborating with school staff to implement new sustainable policies and initiatives.
- Representing the school at external environmental events.
We believe that by giving students the ownership and responsibility to lead this work, we will foster a deeper sense of commitment and achieve more meaningful, lasting change. We encourage any student with a passion for the environment to speak to their tutor for information on how to get involved.
How You Can Support at Home
We invite you to keep the conversation going this week. Perhaps you could discuss:
- Your family’s own ‘green’ habits and how they could be improved.
- Sustainable career paths and how they might link to your child’s interests.
- The origin and lifecycle of common household items (e.g., clothing, food).
Thank you for supporting this vital theme. Together, we can empower our students to be the stewards of a sustainable future.
Safeguarding Knowledge Booster – Staying Safe when using Mobile Phones
This week we are providing information around the sharing of nudes, or sexting, by young people.
The majority of young people now carry a mobile phone and it is essential that Parents/ Carers monitor their child’s mobile phone usage. There is some guidance in the link provided https://www.childnet.com/help-and-advice/sexting/ and organisations such as the NSPCC and Safe4Me offer lots of advice for Parents/ Carers around this topic.
How to protect your child:
- Talk to your child: It’s not always easy to have discussions of this nature with your child and may feel a bit awkward, but as a Parent/ Carer it’s important to ensure they understand the risks of ‘sexting’. Advise them about staying safe, future impact and reassure them they can talk to you if something ever makes them feel uncomfortable, worried or things go wrong for them. The NSPCC provides guidance for parents on how to approach the conversation.
- Learn together: There is a wealth of advice and support online for young people and their Parents/ Carers about the risks and dangers online – from speaking with strangers to sending naked images. CEOP has produced some excellent videos for young people and Parents/ Carers to watch, these can be found on the Thinkuknow website: https://saferinternet.org.uk/resource/thinkuknow-advice-from-ceop so why not watch and discuss these together.
- Reassure your child: Let your child know that you are always there to support them if they feel worried or pressured by anyone, or if a situation they get involved in gets out of hand they can come to you.
- Take control: Set up parental controls and safety apps on your child’s devices whenever you can to help keep your child safe. It’s important to be supportive and trusting of your child and their internet use, however, it helps to know how to set controls if you need to block access to certain sites or monitor your child’s activity.
If you have any concerns, you can also contact the school using the staysafe@thehambleschool.co.uk or the ‘Report a Concern’ button on the website: https://www.thehambleschool.co.uk/report-concerns/
Let’s Support Each Other at the Music Concert
At our school, we believe in the power of community and the importance of supporting each other. One of the best ways to do this is by coming together to celebrate the incredible talents of our students at the upcoming Music Concert on Tuesday 2 December at 7pm.
This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy an evening of music, from stunning solo performances to full ensemble pieces and to show our students just how much their hard work and dedication are appreciated. The energy of a supportive audience makes a huge difference and helps our performers shine.
We are also delighted to offer complimentary tickets to members of local community groups, including Scouts, Guides and similar organisations. We want as many people as possible to join us and experience the joy of live music while celebrating the talent and effort of our students.
Come along, bring your friends and family and help us make this concert a memorable celebration of creativity, teamwork and community spirit.
Tickets are available here: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/booking/select/janygwnxknne or if you are representing a community group, you can claim complementary tickets here: Music Concert – Community Groups – Fill in form

Hamble Crowned League Winners – 100% Record Secured!
Oasis Mayfield 1–8 The Hamble School
The Hamble School entered their final league fixture knowing that victory would seal the title and complete a flawless season. The team rose to the occasion with a performance full of energy, creativity, and resilience.
We came out firing from the first whistle, piling pressure on the Oasis Mayfield keeper with a flurry of early chances. The breakthrough arrived when Leo D soared above the defence to power a header into the corner for 1–0!
Barely moments later, Jake D doubled the lead with a clinical strike under the keeper. The Hamble School’s free-flowing football was a joy to watch. The first half ended with a commanding 2–0 lead and a clean sheet intact—a performance full of energy, teamwork, and attacking flair
The message at half-time was clear: keep working hard and stick to the basics—and the team delivered in emphatic fashion!
Tommy V lit up the game with a dazzling solo run, weaving past defenders before calmly slotting home for 3–0. Oasis Mayfield briefly hit back with a looping finish over Vak, making it 3–1, but our response was instant and ruthless.
Two quick-fire goals followed—Tommy V’s second of the day and a composed strike from Henry H—stretching the lead to 5–1. Then came the showstopper: Arthur P unleashed two thunderous long-range efforts, sending the crowd into raptures and pushing the score to 7–1.
To cap off a dominant display, tireless winger Tyler buried a perfectly placed shot into the bottom corner, sealing an incredible 8–1 victory.
The Hamble School finish the season as League Champions with a perfect record.
The celebrations said it all—this was a performance full of skill, spirit, and teamwork. What a season to remember!
Player of the Match: Leo D – for opening the scoring and his relentless link-up play and off-the-ball movement.
Special Mentions: The Parents/ Carers and teachers who have supported the team home and away. Mr Barfoot for driving the minibus and ensuring the team could complete this successful run.
Our only remaining competitive games will be in the National Cup – we host Court Moor (Aldershot) in Round 4.
International Men’s Day – Trip to Cooper Vision, Hamble
On Wednesday, we celebrated International Men’s Day 2025, focusing on positive male role models and raising awareness of men’s well-being. A group of students spent the day at Cooper Vision in Hamble, where they had the chance to hear from inspirational speakers who shared their journeys into the company and explained how their roles contribute to the business and its productivity. The students gained excellent insight into the wide range of opportunities within the industry, spanning finance, talent acquisition, engineering and sustainability.
During the visit, students toured the manufacturing facilities, wearing full PPE, and saw firsthand how the company produces over 1 billion contact lenses per year using automated machines. The mass production lines were fascinating, while the ‘made-to-order’ side of the factory highlighted the bespoke processes that ensure each product is perfect for customers.
A huge thank you to Cooper Vision for welcoming us, to Julie Phillips for organising the day, and to Mrs Barkshire for arranging the trip.
Record-Breaking Children in Need Fundraiser
We are absolutely delighted to share the incredible success of our recent Children in Need fundraising efforts last week. A huge thank you to all our students and families for your generous contributions, which helped us achieve a new school record total of £519.40!
The week culminated in a truly spectacular display of teamwork and creativity. Students used the coins collected throughout the week to construct a truly brilliant and intricate coin mural/sculpture, which was a fantastic visual representation of their collective generosity.
Our dedicated fundraising lunchtime was a massive hit, buzzing with energy and friendly competition. Students enthusiastically participated in a variety of engaging activities, including the classic “Guess the number of sweets in a jar” and “Guess where Pudsey is in the grid.” The arts were represented with a colourful Pudsey colouring competition, while skill-based games like Pudsey Pong (bouncing a ball into cups) and Pudsey Bottle Ring Toss saw lots of competitive spirit and prize winners.
Finally, we’d like to celebrate the friendly House rivalry. The final results for the total money raised were:
4th Place: Wembley House – £92.86
3rd Place: Lords House – £110.40
2nd Place: Wimbledon House – £140.50
1st Place: Twickenham House – £175.64
Congratulations to Twickenham House! More importantly, congratulations to all our students for embracing the spirit of Children in Need and raising such a phenomenal amount for a wonderful cause. Your enthusiasm and compassion make us incredibly proud.
Special Achievements
This month, we are proud to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of our students, whose dedication, creativity and perseverance continue to inspire us all. From academic excellence and artistic achievements to sporting milestones and community contributions, each success reflects the unique talents and hard work of our learners. Their growth and determination remind us of the power of passion and persistence, and we couldn’t be prouder of the vibrant spirit they bring to our school community. Congratulations to all—your achievements are a testament to what’s possible when we strive for greatness together.
We are delighted to share some fantastic news from the England Boxing National Development Championship 2025. On Saturday 11 October, Charlie H represented the Southern Home Counties in the Male A Under 42kg category, delivering an exceptional performance in the quarter-finals against London.
Charlie won the bout by unanimous decision, with all five judges scoring in his favour. His victory was a clear reflection of the hard work, discipline and commitment he has shown in training over recent months. His technical ability, composure in the ring, and tactical execution were outstanding, earning praise from both coaches and spectators alike.
This win secures Charlie a place in the semi-finals, bringing him one step closer to national recognition. The National Development Championships are a key platform for emerging talent in amateur boxing and Charlie’s progress highlights both the strength of our regional programme and the support of his coaching team.
Please join us in congratulating Charlie on this impressive achievement. We wish him the very best as he prepares for the next stage of the competition.
During the half-term break, Zoe G travelled to Lake Garda, Italy, to compete in the prestigious 13th Halloween Cup in the Optimist class.
The regatta was an intense test of skill and endurance, spanning four long days on the water against a highly competitive international fleet. Zoe demonstrated determination and consistency throughout the event, securing an impressive 24th place out of 86 competitors in the Silver Fleet. This result placed her 110th overall out of 344 boats, a remarkable achievement in such a large and challenging field.
Zoe’s performance highlights not only her sailing ability but also her resilience in demanding conditions. Competing at this level provides invaluable experience and reflects her commitment to the sport.
Congratulations to Zoe for representing so strongly and for achieving such a commendable result at an international competition.
Nathanial Strikes Gold at Regional Taekwondo Championships!
On Saturday 4 October, Year 10 student Nathanial W showcased incredible skill and composure at a regional Taekwondo competition. Facing five strong competitors in the poomsae (patterns) category, Nathanial delivered two flawless routines, demonstrating outstanding technique, control and precision.
His performance impressed the judges so much that five regional Taekwondo masters awarded him gold by unanimous decision—a phenomenal achievement!
Not only did Nathanial shine individually, but he also showed true leadership by coaching a younger club member, who went on to place in their round too.
Huge congratulations to Nathanial for his talent, dedication and sportsmanship!
To feature in next month’s individual success, please send your stories of achievements to communication@thehambleschool.co.uk
Detentions
To support families with planning, any detentions set will take place the following day afterschool. This gives Parents/ Carers time to make suitable arrangements for students to get home safely.
If a student has a medical appointment on the day of their detention, please send confirmation of the appointment to classcharts@thehambleschool.co.uk so we can make the necessary adjustments.
We appreciate your support in helping students meet our expectations. If a student does not attend their scheduled detention, the matter will be followed up in line with the school’s behaviour policy and the sanction will be escalated.
Year 7 PR2 – Review Assessments
Year 7 students will be completing Review Assessments in lessons w/c 01 December.
Your class teachers will be adding revision resources to Class Charts for you to complete independent revision at home.
It is strongly encouraged that students complete revision at home and be independent learners, to enable them to achieve the best outcomes in their assessments. Study Skill techniques may be used to help with revision. If you are unsure on how to use a Study Skill technique or how to revise, please speak to your class teacher.
The outcomes of these assessments will be shared with Parents/ Carers w/c 5 January.
Exciting Update – Our New Science Block!
Due to ongoing building works in Sydney, the entire Science Block will be closed to staff and students next week as we prepare for the next phase of construction. During this time, access will be restricted to ensure everyone’s safety.
We are thrilled that when the block reopens in the week beginning 8 December, students will be able to start using some of the newly completed rooms. This state-of-the-art space is designed to inspire curiosity and creativity, with modern labs and collaborative areas that will make science learning more exciting than ever.
As part of this transition, there will be some changes to room allocations on student timetables. Students will receive these updates directly. Thank you for your understanding and support as we continue to create an amazing learning environment for everyone. The whole block is due to be completed by April.
