Theme of the Week: Safer Internet Day 2026
In tandem with Arts Week, our Personal Development (PD) programme and assemblies will focus on the upcoming Safer Internet Day (Tuesday, 10th February).
This year’s theme is:
“Smart tech, safe choices – Exploring the safe and responsible use of AI”
As Artificial Intelligence (AI) becomes more integrated into the apps, games, and tools our students use daily, it is vital they understand how to use it safely and ethically.
In assemblies and tutor time, we will explore:
- What is AI? Understanding how chatbots, image generators, and algorithms work.
- Fact vs. Fiction: Developing the critical thinking skills to recognize that AI can sometimes provide biased or incorrect information.
- Data & Privacy: Learning why it is important to be cautious about sharing personal information with AI tools.
- Responsible Use: Discussing the ethical use of AI in schoolwork and the importance of academic integrity.
Supporting at Home
Technology moves fast, and we know it can be a lot for parents to keep up with. We encourage you to use this week as a “conversation starter” at home. You might ask your child:
- “Are any of the apps you use starting to use AI or chatbots?”
- “How can you tell if something you see online was made by a person or a computer?”
- “What should you do if you see something online that makes you feel uncomfortable?”
By working together, we can ensure our students are not only creative and inspired but also informed and resilient digital citizens.
Sexual Abuse & Sexual Violence Awareness Week – 2 to 8 February
Next week is Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week, a national campaign dedicated to raising awareness, promoting healthy relationships, and ensuring young people know how to seek help if they ever feel unsafe.
At The Hamble School, our PSHCRE curriculum and Tutor Programme reinforce the important message that everyone has the right to feel safe, respected and heard. We focus on:
- Understanding consent and why it is essential in all relationships
- Recognising unhealthy or harmful behaviours, both online and offline
- Developing confidence to speak up if something doesn’t feel right
- Knowing where to get help, both in school and externally
Why This Week Matters
Research shows that many young people struggle to talk about sexual harassment or harmful behaviours because they may feel embarrassed, unsure or worried they won’t be taken seriously. By opening up these conversations in a safe and supportive environment, we aim to:
- Reduce stigma
- Encourage respectful behaviour
- Ensure young people know how to report concerns and who they can trust
How We Support Students in School
Our safeguarding team is always available for any student who wants to talk. Students can speak to:
- Any trusted adult or Tutor
- Their Progress Leader
- The Safeguarding Team via staysafe@thehambleschool.co.uk
- Or by reporting a concern online here: https://www.thehambleschool.co.uk/report-concerns/
How You Can Support at Home
Parents/Carers play a crucial role in reinforcing these messages. You can support your child by:
- Having open, calm conversations about friendships, respect and boundaries
- Discussing healthy online behaviour, including social media and messaging
- Reminding them that they can always talk to you—or another trusted adult—if something feels wrong
- Encouraging kindness and mutual respect in all interactions
You don’t need to have all the answers—simply being willing to talk can make a big difference.
Useful Support Services
These organisations offer confidential advice to young people and families:
- NSPCC – 0808 800 5000
- Childline – 0800 1111
- The Survivors Trust – support for anyone affected by sexual abuse
- CEOP – online safety guidance and reporting concerns
We want all students to feel safe, confident and supported—both in school and in the wider community. Thank you, as always, for working with us to help keep our young people safe.
If you have any questions or would like further information, please contact the school’s safeguarding team at staysafe@thehambleschool.co.uk
Building Resilience as We Approach the Exam Season
As we move closer to the exam period, many students will begin to feel an increase in pressure, expectation and uncertainty. At The Hamble School, we recognise how important it is to help our young people develop the resilience they need—not only to face exams with confidence, but to navigate challenges throughout their lives.
Resilience is not something students simply “have” or “don’t have”. It is a skill that can grow with support, practice and positive routines both at school and at home. By working together, we can help students manage stress, stay motivated and feel proud of their progress.
This week, we are sharing some practical guidance for parents and carers on how to support teenagers in building resilience during the busy months ahead. The tips below provide helpful ways to encourage independence, maintain emotional wellbeing, and develop healthy coping strategies as the exam season approaches.
Thank you for your continued support in helping our students build the confidence, balance and determination they need to thrive. If you ever have concerns about your child’s wellbeing, please contact their tutor via general@thehambleschool.co.uk
Have Your Say: Hampshire’s Co‑Produced SEND Survey Now Open
We would like to encourage all parents and carers to take part in this year’s co‑produced SEND Survey, developed in partnership with the Hampshire Parent Carer Network. Your experiences and views are vital in helping shape the future of SEND services across the county.
The information gathered through this survey directly supports the Local Area Partnership Board’s analysis and feeds into the combined SEND Self‑Evaluation Framework, ensuring that decision‑makers have a genuine understanding of what is working well and where improvements are needed.
This year’s survey has been designed with tailored question pathways so that it reflects the unique perspectives of different groups. There are separate sections for:
- Professionals responding on behalf of a young person
- Young people
- Parents and carers
- Professionals across the sector
To help encourage participation, the Parent Carer Forum is generously funding a prize draw, with prizes of £150, £100, and £50 available to be won.
Your voice truly makes a difference. We encourage all families in our school community to complete the survey and share their experiences. More information, along with the survey link, can be found below.

School Food Bank – Information for Families
We are extremely grateful to the Rotary Magna Club for their generous donations to our school food bank. Their continued support helps us provide essential items to families within our school community who may need a little extra help.
We run a food bank to support our families, and if you would like to access this support, please complete the form below. This helps us plan our resources carefully and ensure we are able to meet the needs of our community.
Please save this link in case you need support in the future.
We always welcome donations to keep our food bank well stocked. If you would like to contribute, students can drop non‑perishable items into the school reception at any time.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and continued support.
Respectful Parking in the Sports Centre Car Park
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the vast majority of Parents/ Carers who park considerately and safely when using the Sports Centre car park. Your cooperation ensures a smooth start and end to the school day and reflects the values of our community.
We are fortunate that the Sports Centre permits our school community to use its car park at busy times. This is a privilege, not a right and maintaining it depends on all users following the agreed expectations. Recent feedback indicates some instances where vehicles have been parked on double yellow lines or blocking designated bays, which can impede safe exit for other users. Sports Centre Staff or School Staff should not have to ‘police’ the car park.
To help us preserve ensure safety for all, we respectfully remind Parents/ Carers to:
- Park only in clearly marked bays
- Avoid stopping or waiting on double yellow lines
- Keep access routes and exits clear at all times
- Respond courteously to requests from staff
We are grateful to the many families who already follow this guidance. By continuing to follow these simple rules, which are the expectation in any car park, we can protect this partnership with the Sports Centre and ensure a positive experience for all users.
Thank you for your ongoing support and cooperation.

Year 8 Boys Football: 2–1 Win vs Oasis Lordshill
The Year 8 boys continued their strong league form with a hard‑fought 2–1 home win over Oasis Lordshill. Despite the match being shortened due to fading light, The Hamble School team made the most of their chances, taking a two‑goal lead before a late reply from the visitors set up a tense finish.
Lordshill started brightly, forcing early saves from Stanley B, while The Hamble School threatened on the counter when Keegan T struck the post. After the break, The Hamble School gained more control in the final third. They eventually broke the deadlock before doubling their advantage with a powerful second goal from the edge of the box.
The visitors pulled one back with a well‑worked move, but The Hamble School held firm to secure all three points.
The team are scheduled to face Regents Park School next week (date and venue TBC).
