It has been wonderful to have all our students back in school this week after half term. A big thank you to the students who took part in our professional photo shoot — you represented the school brilliantly and helped capture the spirit of our community. We would also like to extend our thanks to the members of the Student Leadership Team who represented the school with pride and respect at the Mayor’s Remembrance Commemoration in Eastleigh. Your contribution to this important event was greatly appreciated. Next week Year 11 start their written Mock Exams. We wish them lots of luck and know they will work hard.

Theme of the Week – Anti-Bullying Week

This week is national Anti-Bullying Week and we will be focussing on this topic during assemblies and tutor time.

The theme this year is: Power for Good – to empower children and young people to use their power for good to speak out, support others and build a world where kindness wins.

 

Assembly Programme

The assemblies this week are led and have been prepared, by our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors. This exceptional group of Student Ambassadors are working towards the Inclusion Badge from the Diana Awards. They will be talking to students from Year 7-10 about the definition of bullying, the protected characteristics and inclusion, as well as how to speak up against bullying and stand for kindness every day. They will also explain the support the Anti-Bullying Ambassadors and the school are able to provide to those who are experiencing unkindness and bullying.

Whilst bullying at The Hamble School is thankfully rare, the assemblies are designed to raise awareness about bullying, the importance of inclusion; and help us continue building the best community possible. The school has a zero-tolerance approach to bullying, as will be re-emphasised in the assembly.

 

Tutor Personal Development Programme

This will link in with the national Anti-Bullying Week assemblies, with a focus on Inclusion. There are currently 25+ Anti-Bullying Ambassadors in school and they are looking for new members to join, particularly in younger years. The Ambassadors will provide more information on how students can join during the assembly.

Wednesday 19 November 6-7pm (virtual) – Join us for a detailed presentation by World Challenge. This is your essential opportunity to learn about the safety, itinerary, fundraising structure, and cost, as well as ask any questions you may have.

Uniform

A reminder that nose piercings and earrings, other than one small stud in the lobe of each ear, are forbidden and cannot be worn in school.  If seen, these items are confiscated and will be handed back at the end of each school day.

 

Mobile Phone Trial

We have come to the end of week one of our mobile phone free trial.  It has been really good to hear that some students already feel happier without the pressure of having their phone on them during the school day.  There will be more feedback given at the start of Spring 1.

 

Medical Information

If there have been any changes to your child’s medical condition or your child has a new medical condition, please make sure you notify the school by emailing general@thehambleschool.co.uk  in the first instance and mark FAO Mrs Culligan.

 

Class Charts

We use Class Charts to communicate with students and Parents/ Carers and so it is essential that this is being accessed by Parents/ Carers on a daily basis.  If you have not logged in to Class Charts recently or do not know your login details, please email classcharts@thehambleschool.co.uk

 

Detentions

Detentions are an essential part of our school behaviour policy.  If your child has a detention, they need to attend so that this does not escalate.  Please note that medical evidence (e.g. text with details of an appointment) needs to be emailed to classcharts@thehambleschool.co.uk if a detention needs to be moved for this reason.

 

Parent Weekly Safeguarding Knowledge Booster

Theme: Anti-Bullying Week

As part of Anti-Bullying Week, we’re focusing this week’s safeguarding booster on how we can work together to prevent and respond to bullying—both in school and online.

What is Bullying?

Bullying is repeated, intentional behaviour that hurts another individual or group physically or emotionally. It can happen in person or online (cyberbullying), and it often involves an imbalance of power.

Signs Your Child Might Be Affected

Children who are being bullied may:

  • Become withdrawn or anxious
  • Avoid school or social situations
  • Have unexplained injuries or lost belongings
  • Show changes in eating or sleeping habits
  • Display sudden drops in confidence or academic performance

Cyberbullying can happen through:

  • Social media (e.g. Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat)
  • Messaging apps or gaming platforms
  • Group chats or anonymous apps

Encourage your child to:

  • Block and report harmful users
  • Save evidence(screenshots, messages)
  • Talk to a trusted adult if something online makes them feel uncomfortable

What You Can Do:

  • Talk regularly with your child about their day and friendships
  • Model kindness and respect in your own interactions
  • Encourage empathy—ask your child how they think others feel
  • Report concerns early to the school so that behaviours can be addressed

Children in Need – Friday 14 November

A final weekly message reminder – a chance to fundraise for a really important charity who do amazing work!

In the week of 10-14 November, students can bring any spare change/coins etc into school to hand in to their tutor envelope. On Friday 14 November, the envelopes will be collected and emptied into containers for each House (Lords, Twickenham, Wembley and Wimbledon) as part of our House competition. All money will then be used in our annual temporary Pudsey Coin Sculpture, designed exclusively by our Year 7 School Council representatives and then donated directly to Children in Need. Please support this cause by donating any change you may have.

We know that families are ever-more using contactless payments and therefore may not have cash available. As of Monday 10 November, Scopay will have the ability to make a voluntary contribution to Children in Need.

At lunchtime on Friday, we will also have various stalls running in the hall where students can take part in competitions and challenges to win prizes. Entry costs for the different challenges cost from 10p/20p up to 50p. If your child would like to take part then please do support them with donating any money for this fantastic cause.

 

Phase 3 Transition: Primary School Lunch and Learning visits

This week we have continued to host our Primary School Lunch and Learning Visit for our Year 7 students. This event is a key part of our transition process, designed to bridge the gap between primary and secondary life and we are delighted to share that it was a resounding success!

We welcomed familiar faces—members of staff from our partner primary schools—to share a lunch with their former Year 6 students. Seeing those initial, happy reunions was wonderful. It’s a brilliant opportunity for our primary colleagues to see their students thriving in a new environment and for the Year 7s, it was a chance to share their journey so far with people who know them well.

The highlight for many was the Period 5 lesson visit. Our Primary School visitors observed our Year 7s engaged in their learning, and what stood out most was the visible growth in maturity and independence. It was fantastic to see our students confidently demonstrating their new skills and showcasing the high-quality work they are producing here at The Hamble School.

The Year 7s were so eager to show off their progress, their new classrooms, and their responsibilities. Their pride in being a member of our school community shone through clearly. A huge thank you to all the primary staff who took the time to visit. These strong partnerships are invaluable. We look forward to building on this success as we continue to support our students throughout their secondary careers. We will continue to look at getting more of our non-feeder Primary Schools so that as many of our year 7s can have the same experience, as possible.

 

Match Report Year 7 Football Game

Our Year 7 Boys Football Team delivered an excellent performance in challenging conditions, storming to a 12–1 victory over Regents Park. From the first whistle, the squad showed flair and ruthless finishing to extend their fine run of form.

Special mentions to our goalscorers: Leo D (4) – A masterclass in attacking movement and clinical finishing. Henry K (3) – all goal of the season contenders! Arthur P x2, Tommy V x2 and Henry H.

Edward B and Tate made impressive debuts, slotting seamlessly into the squad and contributing with energy and confidence.

While the attacking display stole the headlines, Reggie B was a standout at the back. His positioning, composure and leadership earned him Player of the Match.

A brilliant team effort in tough conditions. The boys played with heart, discipline, and flair. Proud of every player!

 

Book Buzz

This year the school purchased a book for each year 7 student from a carefully chosen selection of books from Book Trust. Your child has chosen their own book to keep out of the sixteen Bookbuzz titles available and they will be given out during their next library lesson. What’s next? The adventure continues when your child finishes their Bookbuzz book!  No matter what their interests, there are thousands of fantastic books out there to discover. Helping Year 11 Students Recharge During Mocks

After a full day of mock exams, it’s important for Year 11 students to give themselves a chance to relax and recharge. Taking time to unwind helps the brain process information and get ready for the next day.

Students are encouraged to take a short break before doing any light revision — perhaps by going for a walk, reading, listening to music, or spending time with family. A calm evening routine, a nutritious meal, and a good night’s sleep will all help them feel alert and focused for the following day.

Remember, mocks are a valuable opportunity to learn and improve. Taking care of both body and mind is just as important as studying — and it can make a big difference in performance and confidence.
