This Week at the Dinner Table…

  1. What is the difference between conflict and bullying?
  2. How would you spot if someone was being bullied?
  3. How could you support someone if they had concerns? Where could you get help?
  4. How can we continue to build a positive ethos in your tutor group/year group/school?
  5. How can we support each other and recognise that we all have different strengths?

Theme of the Week – Anti-Bullying Week

We are delighted to be part of the Diana Award and a host school for The Diana Award Anti-Bullying Ambassador Programme. In January we will be welcoming primary and secondary school students (and their teachers) from across the region to train to become Anti-Bullying Ambassadors.

This week is national Anti-Bullying Week and we will be focussing on this topic during assemblies and tutor time.

Assembly Programme

The assemblies this week are led, and have been put together, by our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors. This exceptional group of ambassadors will be talking to students from Year 7-10 about the definition of bullying, the difference between unkindness and bullying and how to support others who may be being bullied. They will also explain the support the Anti-Bullying ambassadors and the school are able to provide to those who are experiencing unkindness and bullying.

Whilst bullying at The Hamble School is thankfully rare, the assemblies are designed to raise awareness about bullying and to help us continue building the best community possible. The school has a zero-tolerance approach to bullying, as will be re-emphasised in the assembly.

Tutor personal development programme

To link in with the national Anti-Bullying Week assemblies, the Anti-Bullying Ambassadors have also created two tutor sessions focussed on helping students explore in more detail how bullying can affect individuals, why people become bullies and to get students to reflect on their interactions with other people.

SENDIA Award

We are delighted to announce that The Hamble School has been awarded the SENDIA (Special Educational Needs and Inclusion for All) award. We wish to thank all of the staff, parents, external professionals and students that supported with the verification and the award. Well done!

The award recognises the invaluable work we, as a school, achieve with students who may have special educational needs. The Hamble School is one of very few secondary schools in Hampshire to achieve this award.

We will share further information about the award and the positive comments from the verification team at our Parent Forum.

Children in Need – Friday 15th November

It’s that time of year again – a chance to fundraise for a really important charity who do amazing work!

All this week, students can bring any spare change/coins etc into school to hand in to their tutor envelope. The envelopes will be collected and emptied into containers for each House (Lords, Twickenham, Wembley and Wimbledon) as part of our House competition. All money will then be used in our fantastic temporary Pudsey Coin Sculpture that will be designed on Friday 15 November and then donated directly to Children in Need. Please support this cause by donating any change you may have.

On Friday 15 November at lunchtime we will also have various stalls running in the hall where students can take part in competitions and challenges to win prizes. Entry costs for the different challenges cost from 10p/20p up to 50p. If your child would like to take part then please do support them with donating any money for this fantastic cause.

Year 11 Mock Exams

A reminder that the Year 11 Mock Exam timetable is available here: https://www.thehambleschool.co.uk/examination-information/ You will also find JCQ examination regulations of this page.

There will be no after school intervention on Tuesday or Thursday this week, so that students can complete their own personal revision at home. However, please note that some exams do run over past the end of the school day and students are expected to stay.

Year 11 Revision Guides – Available for purchase again

Many Year 11 students have already collected their revision guides ordered before half term, however, we still have some which have not been collected – Your child can collect them after school on Tuesday and Thursday from the SLT Office.

Due to popular demand, Year 11 revision guides are available for order and purchase again via Scopay, with a closing date of Friday 15 November. If you are still missing some.

Thank you for your support in helping students prepare for their exams. A reminder that Mock Revision information is available here: https://www.thehambleschool.co.uk/revision/

Duke of Edinburgh Award – Year 10 2024-25

On Tuesday 6 November we had our Year 10 Duke of Edinburgh Launch evening. It was very well attended with lots of really useful questions. The Year 10s also had a Duke of Edinburgh assembly on Thursday 8 November which created a very exciting buzz with many students discussing what their skill, physical and volunteering might be. For those that were unable to make it, please email general@thehambleschool.co.uk and mark FAO Mr Bradshaw and we will answer your questions.

The cost of the award this year is estimated to be a maximum of £100 (this is likely to be lower but is dependent on the number of students who sign up)

If your child is interested in signing up for Duke of Edinburgh this year, please fill out this form with them: https://tinyurl.com/DofERegisterInterest2024

The form is a declaration of interest and not a formal commitment. The closing date for the form is Friday 13 December at 4pm. At this point we will look to see how many students have signed up. We have a limited number of staff who are qualified to run the award, however if the demand is substantial then we would look to have more staff achieve the Duke of Edinburgh trainer qualification to hopefully ensure that all students who wish to take part, are able to.

If you have any questions about the Duke of Edinburgh Award then please do contact Mr Bradshaw through general@thehambleschool.co.uk
