As we prepare for another action-packed week at The Hamble School, it is worth reflecting on the many successes and memorable moments from the week just gone. From Year 10 students completing their examinations and college taster days, to the fantastic feedback received following the Year 7 PSHCRE Day and our highly successful production, there has been much to celebrate across our school community.

We were particularly delighted to receive exceptional feedback from our partner primary schools following the Year 5 Arts Day. A huge thank you to our Creative Arts Team for delivering such an engaging and inspiring experience. We hosted the whole of Year 75 from Hamble Primary and Netley Abbey Junior School. We were especially pleased to receive the following feedback from the Executive Headteacher at Netley Abbey Schools:

“We had AMAZING feedback from Y5 and the day they spent at THS today. Apparently seeing some of our ex-pupils really shining was such a highlight – they have come so far!”

Thank you also to our Creative Arts Ambassadors and Student Leaders, whose enthusiasm, leadership and creativity helped make the day such a success.

Last week also saw our students deliver an outstanding production of High School Musical Jr., showcasing incredible talent, dedication and teamwork both on stage and behind the scenes. The students captivated audiences with their energy, confidence and professionalism, bringing the much-loved musical to life through exceptional acting, singing and dance. The production was a testament not only to the commitment of our performers, but also to the hard work of the many students who supported the show through technical production, lighting, sound, stage management and front-of-house roles. We are incredibly proud of everyone involved and would like to thank our Performing Arts staff for their tireless efforts in supporting students to achieve such high standards. The overwhelmingly positive feedback from Parents/ Carers and the wider community reflected what a special celebration of creativity, teamwork and talent it truly was.

We are pleased to have successfully completed our Academic Transition programme. Over recent weeks, members of The Hamble School staff have generously given their time to visit our feeder primary schools and teach lessons to Year 6 students ahead of their move to secondary education. These sessions have provided a valuable opportunity for students to experience secondary-style learning, meet some of the staff who will be teaching them in September and begin building confidence about the transition ahead. The programme has also strengthened the already positive relationships we have with our partner primary schools, helping to ensure that students feel supported, reassured and excited as they prepare to join The Hamble School. We would like to thank all staff involved for their commitment to making this important stage of students’ educational journey as smooth and successful as possible.

We would like to thank all the Parents/ Carers who attended the recent Year 10 Maths Supergroup information session. Your support and engagement play a vital role in helping students achieve their full potential, particularly as they prepare for the demands of Year 11. The session provided valuable information about the expectations, opportunities and commitment required to be part of the Year 11 Supergroup, and we hope it helped students and families understand how they can make the most of this important programme of support.

As we look to the week ahead, we encourage all Parents/ Carers and students to read this weekly message carefully, as there are many events happening next week.

Next week is WEEK 1

Theme of the Week – E-Safety and Transition to the next academic year

This week, our assembly and Tutor Personal Development programmes focus on two vital areas for our students: staying safe online and preparing for the upcoming academic year.

Here is what your child will be focusing on this week:

Assemblies This Week Students will attend two assemblies over the course of the week:

  • Assembly 1: E-Safety (All Year Groups) Our student Cyber Ambassadors will lead this session, focusing on the importance of e-safety and practical strategies for keeping safe online. This peer-led approach is a powerful way for students to learn about digital responsibility from their classmates.
  • Assembly 2: Looking Ahead to Transition (Years 7, 8, and 9) Delivered by our Progress Leaders, this assembly will help students prepare for their transition into the next year group. It will highlight what to look forward to next year and feature a video from older students sharing their personal experiences, tips, and advice on how to succeed.

Tutor Time & Personal Development During tutor periods, students will build on their assembly themes through two key activities:

  • Cyber Safety: Tutors will lead follow-up activities to further develop students’ understanding of online safety and digital citizenship.
  • The Big Survey: Students will spend one tutor session in the computer rooms to complete our annual school survey. This is a crucial opportunity for them to reflect on the current year, sharing what has worked well and highlighting areas where they feel the school can develop for the future.

We encourage you to talk to your child about these topics at home, particularly regarding their online safety habits and their reflections on the school year. Thank you for your continued support.

Parent Forum Reminder – Monday 13 July

This is a reminder that our next Parent Forum will take place on Monday 13 July at 6.00pm, hosted by Mr Tickner, Vice Chair of Governors.

The session provides an opportunity for Parents/ Carers to find out more about the role of the Governing Body, the work governors undertake to support and challenge the school, and how governance contributes to continued school improvement.

If you would like to attend, please register using the link below. A Microsoft Teams link will be sent to all registered participants on Monday ahead of the meeting.

Any students who are not attending the trip are expected to attend school as normal. Annual Whole School Prize Giving – Reminder

We are looking forward to welcoming students and their families to this year’s Annual Prize-Giving Evening on Thursday 16 July at St Mary’s Stadium. This special event recognises and celebrates the achievements, effort and success of students from across the school who have been selected to receive awards.

A reminder that award recipients should arrive by 6.30pm to allow plenty of time to be seated before the ceremony begins promptly at 7.00pm. The evening is expected to finish at approximately 8.30pm.

Students in Years 7 to 10 should attend in full school uniform, including their blazer. Although the weather is forecast to be warm, the air conditioning in the venue is very effective and students often find themselves feeling cooler once inside. For this reason, blazers must be worn throughout the evening.

We are incredibly proud of all students who will be receiving awards and look forward to celebrating their achievements with family and friends.

Sports Week and Sports Day

A huge well done to everyone who took part in our National Sports Week activities last week. It was fantastic to see so many students embracing the opportunities on offer, from before-school activities to lunchtime and after-school events. A particular highlight was the morning Fun Run, which provided a brilliant start to the day and saw students and staff coming together to promote healthy lifestyles and physical activity. We were also delighted with the success of the Swimming Gala, which attracted over 50 participants and showcased excellent effort, determination and House spirit throughout.

The sporting excitement continues this week with our annual Sports Day taking place on Tuesday 14 July. Sports Day is one of the highlights of the school calendar and provides every student with the opportunity to represent their tutor group and House, earn valuable House points and take part in a range of competitive and inclusive activities.

The day will begin with tutor time and preparation for Sports Day before students move into their chosen morning activities. Until lunchtime, students have signed up either to participate in a range of sporting events or to attend lessons. Many departments have embraced the spirit of Sports Day by delivering sports-themed lessons, providing an engaging and enjoyable curriculum experience. For example, the History Department will be delivering lessons exploring the History of Sport.

The day will run as follows:

  • 8:30am – 9:00am: Tutor time and Sports Day preparations, including a virtual assembly.
  • 9:00am – 9:45am: Activity 1.
  • 9:45am – 10:30am: Activity 2.
  • 10:30am – 10:50am: Break.
  • 10:50am – 11:35am: Activity 3.
  • 11:35am – 12:00pm: Activity 4 and Tutor Quiz.
  • 12:00pm – 12:30pm: Lunch.
  • 12:30pm – 12:40pm: Registration with tutors and preparation for afternoon events.
  • 12:40pm – 3:00pm: Track and Field events. [

Students must attend in full school PE kit. This should consist of:

  • The school navy polo shirt with House colour banding.
  • Suitable trainers.
  • Plain navy blue or black shorts that are loose fitting, at least thigh length and may only have a small logo. Shorts must not have additional detailing and tight-fitting shorts are not permitted.
  • Alternatively, plain navy blue or black tracksuit bottoms or leggings with only a small logo and no detailing.

Students are encouraged to bring hats and must ensure they had a large refillable water bottle and sunscreen.

We will continue to monitor the weather forecast closely and student welfare remains our highest priority. Should temperatures become too high, adjustments will be made to activities and timings as required. Additional shaded areas, hydration opportunities and modifications to events will be implemented where necessary to ensure all students can participate safely.

We are looking forward to another fantastic Sports Day filled with participation, teamwork, House spirit and friendly competition, and we wish all of our students the very best of luck as they compete for House glory.

The Hamble School Festival 2026

We are excited to remind families about The Hamble School Festival, taking place on Wednesday 15 July. This end-of-term celebration is a fantastic opportunity to bring our school and wider community together and showcase the incredible talents, achievements and creativity of our students.

The festival promises an evening packed with entertainment and activities, including sport, music, drama, dance, crafts, stalls, fun activities and a stunning art exhibition. There truly will be something for everyone to enjoy.

We are particularly looking forward to celebrating the work of our talented young artists and performers. Letters have now been sent home to students whose artwork has been selected for the exhibition, as well as to students who will be performing on stage during the evening. We are incredibly proud of the quality of work and talent on display and hope families will come along to support these students and celebrate their achievements.

Due to England’s success in reaching the World Cup Semi-Finals, we have made the decision to bring the festival forward so that our school community can enjoy the event and still have plenty of time to get home for kick-off. We hope this small change will allow everyone to support both our talented students and the national team.

Achieving Excellence Programme: Continuing to make progress between now and the end of the academic year

What can I do to support my child in preparing for the next academic year?

One of the most important things a student can do to ensure they are fully prepared for the next academic year, is to ensure their subject knowledge in the previous academic year is secure. Using methods, study skill techniques and resources they have looked at previously this year, students should ensure subject knowledge is secure with no gaps in their knowledge.

If students are unsure on new content being taught, again they should practice techniques discussed this year to further their understanding in the topic. Remember that your class teacher is always available should you have any further questions.

How Parents/ Carers can help

There are several ways in which you can help your child make better progress. We recommend having conversations about these study skills techniques by ask probing questions to delve deeper into your child’s learning.

We encourage you to have conversations about homework, the content in homework and the level to which it has been completed. Homework is a very useful form of retrieval practice and when completed properly, can have benefits to knowledge retention and progress.

Sometimes, Parents/ Carers do not want to ask their child about their learning for fear of not knowing the topic. This, however, should be welcomed as an initial platform for a conversation for your child to expand their knowledge on a topic. With ‘Elaboration’, students can break a topic down into smaller, more manageable chunks of information. This will help a student have a better understanding of that topic, having explained it in more detail.

Benedict’s Law

Benedict’s Law is new allergy safety legislation designed to protect children with allergies in schools. It requires schools to have clear allergy management procedures, provide staff training, maintain emergency allergy medication and ensure that students with allergies are kept safe and fully included in school life. The law is named in memory of Benedict Blythe and aims to prevent serious allergic incidents and save lives.

We are currently preparing for the introduction of this legislation in September and will be contacting parents/carers of students who have an allergy recorded on our systems. We will be using Medical Tracker to share further information, so please check your inbox and spam/junk folders for emails from Medical Tracker.

To comply with the new requirements, we will be increasing the number of spare Adrenaline Auto-Injectors (AAIs) available on site. There are currently three types of AAI used by students with allergies:

  • EpiPen
    • Jext
    • EURneffy (nasal spray)

If your child carries an AAI, please complete the form below to help us plan appropriately for September.
