As we reach the end of another busy week, it has been wonderful to see students settle back into school life so positively and approach their learning with focus and enthusiasm.
A particular well done goes to our Year 11 students, who have completed their Modern Foreign Languages speaking examinations this week. These assessments can be challenging and students have represented themselves exceptionally well through their preparation, confidence and determination.
We are also incredibly proud of our Year 11 Student Leadership Team, who represented the school at the Eastleigh Borough Council Remembrance event. Alongside The Mayor, Councillor Richard Gomer, and members of the Royal British Legion Eastleigh, Chandler’s Ford & District Branch, they took part in laying the first crosses at the War Memorial. Their respectful conduct and thoughtful participation were a credit to both themselves and our school community.
Finally, congratulations to Wembley House, who have been crowned Autumn Term 1 House Champions. This achievement reflects the collective effort, participation and positive contributions of students throughout the term. Well done to everyone who has supported their House and contributed to another successful start to the academic year.

Theme of the Week – Remembrance and Supporting Others
Personal Development and Tutor Programme
This week, our focus is on Remembrance, giving students the opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces and the importance of remembering those who have served and continue to serve our country. Through Personal Development, we will explore the significance of Remembrance and why it remains such an important part of our national identity.
On Wednesday, students will take part in a special live Remembrance session at 11am, providing an opportunity for the whole school community to pause and reflect together.
We are inviting students to show their support by coming to school on Wednesday dressed in their Scout, Cadet or other uniformed youth service uniforms. This is a great opportunity to celebrate the contribution of young people involved in these organisations and recognise the values of service, commitment and community.
Alongside Remembrance, tutors will also be exploring Children in Need, looking at the importance of supporting others and how individuals and communities can make a difference. This year, we are placing a particular focus on supporting our local charity partners through our Children in Need Harvest Festival.
On Friday 13 November, we will be holding a Children in Need bake sale. Students are welcome to bring in cakes to contribute to the sale and can bring some loose change to purchase a treat at lunchtime. We are also inviting students to support our local food bank by bringing in donations of any in-date, store-cupboard food on Friday. We will collect donations and award House Points to every student who contributes. Every donation, however small, will make a difference to someone in our local community.
We also want to remind families that if you or someone in your household would benefit from support from our food bank, please contact the school via general@thehambleschool.co.uk We are always happy to help.
Table Talk – Getting involved in Children in Need
This week, encourage conversations at home about Children in Need and supporting our local community:
- What is Children in Need and what does it aim to achieve?
- Why is it important to support children, young people and families who face challenges?
- How can local food banks make a difference to people in our community?
- What small actions can we take to help others and make a positive difference?
Whole School Notices
Parent Safeguarding Update: The Risks of Nicotine Pouches
We would like to make Parents/ Carers aware of the growing use of nicotine pouches among young people. These small white sachets are placed between the gum and lip and contain nicotine, but no tobacco. They are often marketed in colourful packaging and flavours such as mint, fruit, or berry, making them particularly appealing to young people.
Whilst nicotine pouches are legal for adults, they can contain high levels of nicotine and are highly addictive. Use can affect developing brains, impact concentration, mood and sleep, and increase the likelihood of future nicotine dependence.
What should Parents/ Carers look out for?
You may wish to be alert to:
- Small round tubs or containers labelled with names such as Velo, ZYN, Nordic Spirit or Pablo.
- White sachets or pouches found in pockets, bags, bedrooms or bins.
- Increased restlessness, irritability or mood changes.
- Frequent trips to the bathroom or requests to leave rooms.
- Complaints of headaches, dizziness, nausea or sore gums.
- Unexplained spending or requests for money.
Talking to your child
Open, non-judgemental conversations are often the most effective way to understand whether your child has encountered nicotine products. Ask what they know about nicotine pouches, whether they have seen them being used, and discuss the potential risks and addictive nature of these products.
Need support?
If you are concerned that your child may be using nicotine pouches, vaping products or other nicotine-containing substances, support is available. Parents can contact the school and request a referral to the School Nursing Service, who can provide advice, guidance and support for young people and families.
Please email staysafe@thehambleschool.co.uk if you would like to discuss a concern or request a School Nursing referral.
Food Bank Support
As we approach the Christmas period, we are preparing food bank packages to support families who may benefit from some additional help during the holiday season. If you would like to receive a food package, please complete the form below by 4.00pm on Friday 27 November. Providing this information by the deadline will help us ensure that we can prepare and distribute the appropriate number of packages to families who need them. All requests will be treated sensitively and confidentially.

If you have any questions or require assistance completing the form, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Attendance & Family Support
The Hamble School prioritises attendance due to the direct links with a student’s academic success and wellbeing. We know that periods of absence, even when unavoidable, can sometimes leave students feeling less confident, less engaged with lessons or anxious about missed work. Our aim is to prevent this from happening and to provide support before any difficulties arise. We want all students to achieve their full potential.
This week we are encouraging students to think about how their routine can help support with school attendance. In order to start the day positively, a good routine would include:
- Pack your bag the night before
- No phone for 30 minutes before bed
- Set your alarm 10 minutes earlier
- Lay out clothes the night before
- Eat breakfast
Flu Vaccinations
Annual Nasal Flu Vaccinations are now due. The vaccine helps protect against flu, which can be a serious or life-threatening illness. The vaccine will help your child to build up immunity which means your child will be better able to fight off flu.
You will shortly receive an email from the school with a link to book a vaccination for your child. However, you can also use the link below to do this.
Visit the website below for the electronic form and information about the vaccine. Access to the form will close two working days prior to the session.
- School Code: SH116413
- Session date: Monday 23 & Tuesday 24 November 2026
- Year Group: Year 7-11
- Link to website: https://www.hiowhealthcareimmunisations.co.uk/Forms/Flu
The nasal flu vaccine contains products derived from pigs (porcine gelatine). To opt for the porcine gelatine free inactive flu injection, select NO to the nasal flu immunisation and you will be given further options. Alternatively, if you decide you do not wish your child to receive the vaccine against flu, please complete the form to record your decision. This will enable us to update your child’s immunisation record.

FREE Breakfast Available Every Morning
Did you know that all students can access a free breakfast in the canteen each morning?
From 8:15am, students can enjoy free toast and porridge before the start of the school day. A healthy breakfast helps students arrive in lessons feeling energised, focused and ready to learn, making a positive start to the day.
Whether students arrive early for enrichment activities, revision sessions or simply want something to eat before lessons begin, they are welcome to visit the canteen and take advantage of this provision.
We encourage all students to make use of this fantastic opportunity. There is no booking required, just come along to the canteen from 8:15am and enjoy a free breakfast before school.
We look forward to welcoming students each morning and helping them start the day ready to achieve their best.
Help Us Shape Financial Education at The Hamble School
At The Hamble School, we are currently working towards becoming a Young Enterprise Centre of Excellence for Financial Education. This accreditation will help us create valuable opportunities for students, staff and Parents/ Carers to develop their financial knowledge, skills and confidence, supporting young people to make informed financial decisions and prepare successfully for adult life.
We know from student feedback that financial education is a key priority for many young people as they look towards their futures. Developing an understanding of budgeting, saving, borrowing, managing money and making informed financial choices is an important part of preparing students for the opportunities and challenges they will face beyond school.
To help shape our plans and ensure we focus on the areas that matter most to our school community, we would greatly value your views. Whether it is practical money-management skills, understanding the cost of living, careers and employability, banking, investing or support for families, your feedback will help us identify our priorities.
Please take a minute to complete the survey below and share your thoughts, priorities and suggestions. Your feedback will help us develop meaningful opportunities and resources that meet the needs of our whole school community.

Thank you for taking the time to support this initiative and help shape the future of financial education at The Hamble School.
Remembrance Day 2026
On Wednesday 11 November, our school community will once again come together to mark Remembrance Day, taking time to reflect on the service and sacrifice of those who have served, and continue to serve, in the Armed Forces.
Students who are members of organisations such as the Combined Cadet Force (CCF), Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, Air Cadets, St John Ambulance, Scouts, Guides or other uniformed youth organisations are warmly invited to wear their uniform to school on the day as a mark of respect and remembrance.
Poppy Appeal
Poppies will be available across the school in support of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. The Royal British Legion asks for donations rather than setting a fixed price, with every contribution helping to support serving personnel, veterans and their families.
Poppies can be collected from Reception and our Community Ambassadors have been visiting tutor groups throughout the week.
School Commemorations
On Wednesday 11 November, we will hold our annual Remembrance Assembly and take part in a period of reflection as a school community.
This year, we will also be creating a series of commemorations around the school to honour those who have served in the Armed Forces. We would like to invite families to contribute to this important tribute.
If you have a family member, friend or loved one who is currently serving or who has served in the past, and you would like them to be remembered as part of our Remembrance commemorations, please complete the form here: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/TaxtRMSfew
By sharing their name, you will help us create a meaningful display that recognises the contributions and sacrifices made by members of our wider school community, both past and present.
As we approach Remembrance Day, we thank our school community for helping us ensure that the service, courage and sacrifice of others are never forgotten.
Parent Voice: School Tours During the School Day
At The Hamble School, we value the views of our Parents/ Carers and are committed to working in partnership with families to provide the very best education and experience for our students. As part of this commitment, we are offering Parents/ Carers the opportunity to visit the school during the school day and see our school community in action.
These tours provide a valuable opportunity to experience the calm, purposeful and respectful atmosphere that characterises daily life at The Hamble School. Visitors will have the chance to observe learning in classrooms, see students engaging positively with their education and gain a greater understanding of the high expectations, strong relationships and ambitious culture that underpin our work.
The next Parent Voice school tour will take place on Tuesday 10 November at 9.15am.
Following the tour, Parents/ Carers will be invited to share their feedback. Your views are extremely important to us and help us to celebrate what is working well, whilst also identifying areas where we can continue to develop and improve the experience we provide for students and families.
If you would like to take part in the tour, please sign up using the link below:

SEND Area Inspection
The Local Area SEND Partnership, which encompasses all services and organisations that support children and young people with SEND, is, like schools, subject to inspection. Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) will be visiting the local area to undertake a Local Area Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) inspection from 16 to 20 November, with some inspection activity taking place remotely during the preceding week.
This inspection by Ofsted and the CQC considers not only education, but also the full range of services available to children and young people with SEND, as well as families’ experiences of working with those services to secure better outcomes. This includes NHS organisations such as CAMHS, occupational therapy and physiotherapy services, alongside schools, Children’s Services, parent support networks, and other support services.
Importantly, Ofsted and the CQC would like to hear from families of children and young people with SEND. Your child does not need to have an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan, or be going through the EHC needs assessment process, for you to share your experiences. If your child receives SEN Support or other assistance to meet their additional needs without an EHC Plan, inspectors would also like to hear from you.
Inspectors are interested in your experiences of schools, services and support, including how helpful they have been for you and your child, how effectively they have worked with your family, what support has been available, and what you feel could be improved.
The survey is relatively short, consisting mainly of tick-box questions, with some opportunities to provide additional comments.
This is an important opportunity to ensure your voice is heard and to help inspectors understand the experiences of children, young people and families across Hampshire. Your feedback will help shape the future of SEND provision and support across the county.
The survey for parents, carers, children and young people can be found here:
Complete the Ofsted and CQC Area SEND survey
If you would like to complete the survey but need help accessing it, reading through the questions, or recording your responses, a member of our team would be very happy to assist. Please contact the school office and we will get in touch directly.
Hampshire Youth SEND survey
Designed by members of the Hampshire SEND Youth Forum, the survey is an opportunity for young people aged 14–25 to share their experiences, ideas and priorities. Their feedback will help ensure that young people’s voices are heard and inform future discussions, planning and decision-making across Hampshire.
Who can take part?
The survey is open to young people who:
- Are aged 14–25
- Live in Hampshire
- Have SEND, additional needs, disabilities or long-term health conditions.

Year 11
Year 11 Mock Examinations
Year 11 written mock examinations begin on Monday. Students should ensure they know when and where each of their examinations will take place. Examination timetables have already been sent home and can also be found here: https://www.thehambleschool.co.uk/examination-information/
Equipment Required for Every Exam
Students must arrive fully equipped for all examinations. They should bring:
- At least two black pens
- Pencils
- A ruler
- An eraser
- A pencil sharpener
- A scientific calculator (where required)
- Mathematical equipment such as a protractor and compass for Maths examinations
- A clear water bottle with the label removed
Students should check their equipment the evening before each examination to ensure everything is working and ready to use. Arriving prepared helps students feel confident and ensures they can make the very best start to each exam.
Important Reminders
During the next two weeks, there will be no after-school intervention sessions for Year 11 students to allow them to focus fully on their mock examinations.
Students should also be aware that some examinations will finish after the end of the normal school day. Where this is the case, students are required to remain in the examination room until the exam has officially ended and they have been dismissed by invigilators. Students and Parents/ Carers should therefore plan travel arrangements in advance to ensure students can get home safely following any later finishing times.
